Towed a trailer for the first time

I've had my 4Runner for a few months now but today was the first time I towed a trailer with it. Nothing too serious: a 6x10 utility trailer with a ton of pellets, about 3500 lbs total.

The 4Runner handled it like a CHAMP. I could hardly even tell it was back there. Quiet, stable. Easily made it up the onramp onto the freeway.

My last car was a Subaru Forester which I had for 12 years and loved, but towing 3500 lbs with it was very slow and harrowing. The 4Runner is a huge step up in capability.

Awesome, very good to hear, just bought a 2011 4runner and was wondering about the towing capabilities

It is truck... but towing is not it's strength. It's good if you stay below 4k and off steep grades.

I tow at max weight or slightly above (~5800), and while you certainly know it is there, it does a good job. Note I tow a boat w/ a well set up trailer (dual axel w/ disk brakes) and have added rear AirLift bags. I have pulled through the mountains of KY, WVA and VA, and while the engine was screaming to keep speed over the mountains, it did it fine without any temp issues (engine or trans). The takeaway is the truck can handle it.

I tow a really big sailboat all summer long with no brakes. Tows like a dream.

It weighs 700lbs...
