Towing with 4th gen Yet?

wow, thanks for all the good information. it makes me feel alot safer before I head out on my trip knowing I will be okay. My only problem now is to build some custom ramps so I can load the car on the trailer, because it is too damn low to the ground.

lots of wood will help! Just drive slow... slow is good Plus driving slow will make others admire your 4runner and your show car!!!! hehehehe

The 4R can carry up to 7200lb. with only a weight distributing hitch. Spec's really vary with type of trailor hitch set-up you have on your trailor and what you have on your truck. The 4R brochure even shows a difference towing package on the V6 over the V8?

Check your manual and stickers on your tow hitch. (mine has two stickers on it) Some good reading:

I bought the tow ball from the dealership and asked for the 7000 lbs ball and they gave me one that had it rated at 6000lbs. I asked them and they said thats the only one higher then 5000lbs. But i specifically recall toyota has 5000 and 7000 ones... am I wrong?

I think most 2" balls have 1" shanks and are rated at 6000. Your drawbar probably came with a 1 1/4" hole, with an insert for using 1" shanks. I bought a 1 1/4" shank 2" ball rated at 8000, but I didn't get it from Toyota. Here is a link for Drawtite's balls.
