Toyota 0-20 oil?

Are the additives full synthetic and do they affect the weight rating of the oil. Does this also hold true for Toyota oil purchased in Brazil?

i've used Mobil 1 for my last two oil changes, but after reading up on the Toyota 0w-20 synthetic on Bob Is The Oil Guy i bought a case the last time i was as the dealer parts counter. at $68 it actually cost me a little less than Mobil 1, when you figure it takes 2 single quarts + a 5-quart jug per oil change.
formulated to Toyota's specs, their 0w-20 synthetic apparently has an unmatched viscosity index, so it flows like a sumbítch at startup. makes sense when you consider that they spec this oil for the Prius, whose combustion engine is always switching on and off. i do a lot of short trip, city (well, town to be more accurate) driving, so that extra protection makes sense for my use scenario.

Yep. It has a viscosity index (VI) of somewhere around 200 compared to Mobil1 of 168. Will we ever be able to tell the difference in performance? No. As long as they cost the same though get the best. Sorta like buying a Rolex Submariner at a Casio GShock Mudman price. Both are great watches and do the job but one has a little better stock.
@op: Have you not got that oil changed yet? I thought you were going to trade vehicles because the 4Runner takes a different filter wrench than you already have lol.

On Bob is the Oil guy (BITOG) the skinny is that it's a Type III base, which is a synthetic base derived from dino oil. In the US this can be labeled 'synthetic' but in the EU it's a 'semi-synthetic' or 'synthetic blend.'
But that's a technicality.
Use with confidence, based on the analyses posted on BITOG it's probably the best 0W20 on the market in terms of both cold flow and hot viscosity performance, with only the Honda 0W20 coming close. Mobil 1 does better from -20F on down when cold, if you care about that sort of thing.

They are both about the same price.
If I'm not mistaken the Toyota oil is made by Exxon/Mobil (to Toyota spec).
The Toyota oil is specially formulated with a very unique additive package (very high moly count).
Also Mobil 1 is NOT full synthetic (but has proved to be as good as the old full synthetic).
I personally think the Toyota oil is better and has shown as good or better UOAs.

THX for all the info,for the price,I suspected it was possibly a "Blend",and not a "Full
Syn",considering Mobil 1 cost more,they should really label it for what it is...as for
Engineer....as long as I can take the "Plastic Cap" off,without boogering it up,I might keep it:biggrin2:

The price difference between group III, IV, and V base stocks is not nearly as high as it used to be. Even Mobil 1 branded synthetic oil is now likely a blend of the three. In terms of quality, lubrication properties, or oil change interval, they are for all intents and purposes identical given the same application and additive package.
BTW, the "plastic" oil filter container on our GR1-FE engines has a drain plug, which makes the whole oil change a lot less messy. It's better, not worse, than metal canister types (unless the oil change pit monkeys at the dealership do to yours as they did to mine). Kind of like how Glocks are generally more reliable than 1911's, it's called progress. There, I said it.
ETA: And while we're on the old school vs new school subject, 3000 mile oil change intervals aren't necessary either

Unless you are going to be pulling a 4K trailer every day or competing in desert races on the weekends your 4Runner will never know or care if you have full or semi synthetic in it. Just use the 0W-20.

I agree,that's why I do my own oil/filter change,I just wish they made cap out of metal with something to "Grab Onto",other then that "Fluted Cap",and as far as1911/Glocks,,,one thing,the Glock is lighter,and I prefer a "DA/SA" action

Well, a friend just let me in on a little secret. The Toyota oil is $68 for 12 qts(case). My bad- the prices are just about equal. I am an idiot.
