Toyota 4Runner good to sleep in?

Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum and I am looking to buy a 2000 Toyota 4Runner and I though the best way to get info about this vehicle is through the people who had owned them before; on this forum. So one of my concerns is that I am going to be driving around a lot on this 4Runner. I do many outdoor activities so I might be taking many trips to mountains and what not, and I was considering to get a vehicle that I could also sleep in. I saw on videos that the rear seats fold so I though that it might work, But I don't have one to actually test it out on. So from you guys that actually own a 2000 toyota 4Runner, is this a vehicle that one can sleep in?

Oh yes - these things can do just about anything. Slept in mine many times, works well!

I've slept in it with just the seats down, and that works, actually pretty comfortable (as long as you're not over 6 feet - Hepar's question above is a very good one)... Then I eventually built a sleeping platform - check it out here:

Sleep in mine all the time at trailheads. Sleeps 2 just fine no platform.

Get some 1.00 LED panels off ebay.

Slept in my 3rd gen going cross country a few times, me and the dog (labrador). Just pack light enough so you can lay the seats down.

I'm a little over 6' tall and with the front seats slid forward I fit with a good amount of room to spare. The wheel wells intrude into the space quite a bit and the seats don't fold entirely flat, so if you want a solid sleeping surface it helps to build a platform, but the downside of that is that you loose a lot of head room.

Here are some pictures of my setup. There is a Edgestar fridge mounted in the rear passenger seat so I only use 1/2 of the width of the truck for the sleeping platform.

The wife and I took a road trip to Florida last year. When one was driving, the other was sleeping in the back. Plus we had our dog (a greyhound) back there will all out stuff. Neither one of us had a problem. I'm 6'1" and had plenty of room...the hardest part was keeping the dog from taking over.

i remove the bottom half of rear seats. This allows more headroom and more storage once the rear seats are folded down. I use a twinsize costco foldable mat and a double wide bag. Pretty damn comfy.

I remove the rear bottom half of the seats as well and it gives me about 8" give or take of extra room. I bought a Therm-a-Rest sleeping pad and throw it down with a heavy duty sleeping bad and some covers. I wouldn't want to sleep on it for a week, but it does just fine for a Friday to Sunday weekend. I'm 5'10 and can stretch out all the way.

I can't sleep comfortably in mine, 6' is just a little too tall. My wife (5'1") fits just fine.

Don't gett o camp too often but when my wife and I do I just use two of these large padded sleeping mats that are about 6" thick and just put them side by side and pushed down they form to the wheel wells and with a few pillows and a couple open sleeping bags my wife and I were actually quite cozy.

I'm 6' 1" and fit just fine in the 4runner if I take the bottom portion of the rear seats. I slept in it this summer and used my cooler as the extension part for my head. You should more than fine. Just lay a mat down and you're good to go.

I plan (in the next 50 years or so) to build a platform that will sit above the seat bottoms. I want the option of keeping them in.

then you give up head room, which is also bad for tall people, lol, personally i'm not that bothered about head room myself as if i'm making my bed i tend to want to lie down instead of sit up, so headroom issue is kinda null for me, i've been debating on making another sleeping platform that's shorter but am not too bothered.
