Depending on the amount of vitamin D my North Western body has absorbed, I am 6' or 6' 1" and I have no problems sleeping in mine...
You're 5'5"... You could with the seat bottoms still intact, lay a mat down in the back and sleep comfortably... The only time I could see you needing a platform is if you plan on inviting your mate into the equation.
I am not sure about the 3rd Gens, but in my 1st gen I used a Truck Bedz inflatable bed for a Toyota Truck and with it rotated 180 degrees it formed perfectly around the wheel wells. Loved that thing.

I was disappointed to find I couldn't just fold down the seats and lay flat in the back... I've been sleeping in the back of the 60 for a couple years now. I'll have to take out my seat bottoms and see how much hassle it is to remove/replace them. If I can do it in 3 minutes, I'll leave my tent at home this weekend 
:edit: Yep, the seats and the tent are staying home this weekend. I might try and make a platform to fill the gap one of these days, but for now I guess my feet will just have to dangle.

I love sleeping in mine when I'm out in the willy wags fishing and what not. I usually got enough room for my air mattress and bedding and some gear. I'm 5'8and with the seats in its a little tight but not bad. Only issue I want too deal with is making some screens too keep the bugs for my back door windows.

In my build thread i used rare earth magnets and some sun screen stuff from wally world, I've also seen someone use a heavyweight wire and use that as a screen and it pops in the window channels

Thats almost the idea of what I was thinking. Does that rear hatch screen set up you have work well?

More or less , it does take some fooling around and the flap comes undone if you're too kicky while sleeping, that said if you can refrain from kicking to much or just put your. Head up there its great , keeps it nice and cool and keeps the super early am light out , really nice with tinted Windows in it. Best part is it all packs down to basically nothing and can store anywhere. If you fold the material over and sew them in you'd have better luck also get the magnets from mc master as they should have some bigger ones if you go this route

well, kind of, you make it like I did mine, and put it so that its at an angle.
this is also super good cuz I can park with my nose on a downslope or I can park flat and Im ok, no having to find rocks to park flat
notice you only give up head room at the furthest most forward spot...

Some great ideas and builds. Curious if anyone has plans for a bed/storage platform that utilizes most of the space that is low profile just enough to go equal or slightly above wheel well humps. I like having the tallness of the stock floor but would sacrifice a few inches for storage and sleep platform. Also I haven’t seen one as of yet than stays in but slides out or can be assembled for use at any time without major hassles and being able to use stock configuration (aka without removing seat bottoms , rear seats,etc) all help or links would be appreciated thanks
