Toyota does NOT want you driving with a door open

Had to drive with the tailgate partially open today on the way home from Sears, there is a door open beeper that goes on constantly while you are moving. WTF?? I think the light on the dash would be enough, or even 30seconds of beeping. But the entire time? Seriously?

Sorry Toyota, engineer fail on that one.

Took about 30mins to get home and the wife and I were going insane by the time we got there.

Oh and what's with not being able to open the back window with the door open? I'm feeling oppressed by the 4R rules man. Just let me do my thing.

Honestly, yes it is annoying. I wonder if you can turn it off via Techstream software at the dealership.

How about just a little tape or something over the sensor button to keep it pushed in.

Or just tell your wife to crawl back there next time a push the button in...and not to move her finger off of it until we get home! :hiding:

Is there an actual button? Or os it part of the door latch mechanism. I haven't looked closely, but I didn't see any buttons.

I think I read on this forum that somebody fugured that you can manually close the latch with you finger or some tool like a screwditer(carrefully) and beeper won't come off with tailgate open. You just need to remember to open latch with your keyfob before slam the gate shut after you unload your cargo. Since I haven't try to do that myself yet and my memory might be not that good it would be a good idea to run a search on this forum for the post how to exactly do it.

Someone would ignore the light and their kid would fall out of the back of the open hatch and Toyota would be sued. Some negligent parent would be screaming "Why didn't Toyota have a buzzer to tell me the hatch wasn't securely closed?!"

Wow :wow: that is crazy, sucks for them but I fail to see how that is Toyota's problem. Anyway, good point about them covering their ass.

I forsee a time when if the driver causes 3 or more diffeent beeps within a certain time, the car will shut down and a voice will demand that the driver leave the vehicle alone! :ybrick:
