Toyota Full Synthetic

Is the factory oil synthetic or regular? My first thought was that the OP was implying that Toyota used synthetic from the factory.

Once you go synthetic, there's no going back (not that you would want to).

Toyota does use full synthetic in the factory fill. What I wanted to know was which company makes the oil for Toyota. I have not seen an answer to that question yet. Can we assume that it is Mobil?

Factory Toyota 0-20 is Mobil one

I called "ask mobil" and the tech told me that the Mobil 1 0-20 is what Toyota uses with or without the TRD marking on the bottle

May I ask, How do you know that Toyota uses "full synthetic" from the factory ? I am not trying to be a smart ass, I just would like to know if this is a fact. Is there any way to check to see if this is true ? I was under the impression that "dinosaur" oil was needed for the break in period, to seat the rings, but I am "old school". (In other words, I am OLD) If they DO use full synthetic from the start, then I will stay with full syn on all my oil changes.

i have only seen the dealers have the oil in 2 ways; one being a red 1qt toyota bottle or in a machine that only dispenses out the amount of oil needed per model. the oil is labeled toyota and i didn't see any markings of who actually produces the oil for toyota.

I just returned from my dealer, and discussed this with the SM. He states that T. runs each engine at the engine plant with a "break in oil" on a test device, which in turn also drains the oil. (We did not specifically discuss what type the break-in oil is). The engines are then shipped to the assy plant, where they receive an oil pan and syn oil. Interestingly, he says that the engines have no oil pan up to this point. I didn't think to question him on how that works. He confirms the factory fill is Mobile-1.

Aside: I asked him the cost of an oil change and tire rotate. It was $5.45 per quart, and $5-something for the filter. And no labor! Very reasonable.

And get this .... they charge $6.00 to rotate ALL FOUR tires w/ the oil change. Yup, I made him repeat it. Unreal.

I was under the belief that each individual dealership is under contract with different company's for the oil supply. I know my local dealership advertises that they use Castrol Motor Oil. I guess you could request a different brand if you wanted to but in my experience I never had any problems with the Castrol Synthetics I have put in my Toyota's over the last 8 or 9 years.
