Toyota mechanic in Raleigh NC?

I pose this question for a friend's college-student son: has any reader of this forum knowledge of a mechanic or shop in Raleigh who be qualified to a) set the valve clearances on a 3RZ 4Runner or b) if that doesn't solve the problem (75psi on cylinders 2&3) replace the head gasket? The vehicle has 190k, and I suspect its valves have never been checked.

I'd do the job myself, but I'm in WA state.

I know the folks at Fred Anderson Toyota do a great job. The owner there has a really nice '80 FJ40 Land Cruiser and he has his guys in the shop work on it when needed. I wouldn't hesitate to bring my 4Runners over there if I lived in the area.

*Full disclosure: I don't work for them, but I work for the ad agency that works for them. I travel out there a few times a year to shoot commercials for them. Really good folks.

We don't fix motors in Raleigh, we swap in 2uz-fe motors instead.

Check out "Wasp Auto". Never been there but they specialize in Japanese vehicles. I've never used them before but they have mechanics that subspecialize into each particular make (Toyota vs Honda vs Mitsubishi, etc)

edit: Also lots of good reviews. Of course the reviews are more about their etiquette rather than handy work but I doubt they'd have this reputation unless they did a great job.

There is a place in Garner called Carfix. One of the other members on the forum has put me on to this place, and thats where I am headed once the 4R is out of storage when I get back.

It more Clayton then Garner. The Service writers (Jake and Jason) are both friends of mine and Jason even has 3rd gen with full armor.

I do not know about the worker bees as I have never taken it anywhere to get worked on.

There is a good place in south Raleigh off of South Saunders st. called Hearne Automotive.
He is not a Toyota "Specialist" but they are really good and most importantly 'Honest" mechanics.
We have been going there for 20 years with all our vehicles.

Yeah, Jason had messaged me, and we were talking back and forth. Im just going to take it up to him at the shop to get my 4R issues straightend out.
