Toyota Platinum extended service contracts...

Just to update everyone, I spoke with someone at the 800 # and they instructed me to fax in a cancellation request. I explained the reason why I want to cancel is because I am being charged $1740 for a 7/75 Platinum contract that is advertised for $1350 on their website here
but she just said that is nothing they can do since it was worked out between the dealer and me, what a load of crap. I would have kept it if she offered it to me at that price but she didnt even budge, I guess I'll have to wait and see if I can repurchase this in the future. If not I can always opt for GEICO's extended warranty for a few bucks a month.

Thanks all

In theory they are right. However, I hope you stated that this warranty situation is very negative in your mind and it's quite obvious the dealer over charged you. All that needs to be done here is the right thing. The right thing is for TFS to get a hold of the Toyota Regional Manager in charge of that Dealership and have him place a call to the GM or owner of the Dealership and just tell them to let you out of it.

But you need both Toyota Financial Services and the Dealership to do THE RIGHT THING!

I don't know how some of these guys who work for dealers sleep at night...I really don't!

If you opt for another warranty other than Toyota, be very careful. Many of these have gone out of business and people have lost big bucks.

For example, you can bet that GEICO'S warranty is not under written by them, but somebody else. You have to ask who under writes the policy, and then find out what they are rated. The ratings are A, A+, AAA, B, etc. Then find out in the event of the claim- who writes the check.

Also, most dealers will not accept a third party warranty. You will have to pay for it a then seek reimbursement.

GOOD LUCK!!

No. The warranty is for upto 100k total on the odometer, not an additional 100k to your current mileage. Also, your vehicle needs to be currently covered by the basic warranty, less than 3yr or 36k.

Hi, I live in Canada and I just bought a 4Runner in the US Ohio and brought it back home. If I buy the Platinum Extended Warranty from a US dealer (ie. shaun) will it be honored in Canada?

Thanks

Shaun,

I'm interested. It is still available?

I'm the 3rd owner of this 4Runner, so I don't really know when it was put into service. It's an '04 with <24,000 mi. on it. Can you get the in service date from the VIN#?

Also wondering about prepaid maintenance contract. I'm guessing it's probably not worth it unless one is putting 12k miles or more a year on the vehicle. For the last 3 years I've been averaging only 6k miles a year. It could go up, but I doubt that it would double.

I've been trying to get a hold of Shaun in order to purchase the extended warranty too but have been unsuccessful. Help?

Try again. I just talked to him at 9:10am today to purchase the warranty. It took all of 2 minutes. You need your VIN, mileage and a credit card #.

Thanks, Fellas...

If anyone is trying to get ahold of me, call. Sometimes towards the end of the month, is gets alittle hectic, so leave a message in my voice mail and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Yes.

HerbVick, give me a call if you get a chance and if you're still interested.

As far as prepaid maintenance is concerned, (Toyota Auto Care) it makes sense only if you're planning on using that dealer to do all of your service work... ie oil changes, brake repairs ect... if not, it dosen't make it worth the money. IMO.

I just wanted to thank Shaun for all of his help. He was very helpful with my warranty and the process could not have been any easier.

X=Reas Covered under Toyota Warranty?

Does anybody know if the Toyota Platinum extended warranty covers the X-Reas Suspension. I went to the Toyota website, and it really wasn't conclusive as to an answer.

Shaun, is the X-Reas covered?

From Toyota Financial Services website:

Note: Platinum protection covers virtually all components on new vehicles. If your new vehicle's component does not appear on our List of Excluded Components, it is covered by Platinum protection.

List of Excluded Components

XREAS is not on that list, so it should be covered.

Available in Texas?

Shaun,

The Toyota Financial Website says:

"Please note: Toyota Financial Services vehicle protection programs are not available in the following areas: AL, AR, FL, GA, HI, LA, MS, NC, OK, PR, SC, and TX."

But my dealer offered me an extended plan when I purchased? Was it another type of plan? Is your Platinum Protection plan available to me?

'05 4Runner, 30K miles...

I live in North Carolina and just bought one from Shaun. My local dealer wanted $1600 for their warranty (Toyota of Concord, a Rick Hendrick owned dealer) plus $200 to "go over" my under warranty truck since I hadn't been taking it to them for 5K service visits. What a joke, I had to laugh at the guy. I have not tried to use the Toyota warranty there yet, though. I did get the official paperwork from Toyota with my NC address on it.
