Toyota Sequoia, who has one?

Thinking of picking one up by end of year.
Does anyone have one and can comment about ride, function and gas millage?

I had a 2014 Sequoia Limited that I had for about a year before I traded for my Tundra. The ride and luxury features were amazing. Very smooth over rough roads especially compared to the stiff suspension on my Tundra.

Gas mileage was always around 11-12 MPG. That was for about 25% Highway driving the rest short trips on back roads. You may be able to get a little better than that but the 5.7 is very thirsty. I have seen few people get the advertised mileage in either a Sequoia or Tundra (same 5.7). The power in the 5.7 is amazing, hard to believe a 6,000 vehicle can accelerate that quickly.

Third row was very roomy and could comfortably hold 2 adults. The 4wd was great as well, drove from Baltimore to PA once in a pretty bad snow storm with quite a bit of snow on the roads and it didn't miss a beat.

Around 26, the same as the Tundra. The gas tank is actually small for the fuel consumption of the vehicle. You have to fill up pretty often. That's a pretty common complaint from Tundra owners as well. A lot of people who tow with their Tundra/Sequoia buy an aftermarket 33 gallon fuel tank to get a little more distance in between fill ups.

The MPG sucks but that's pretty much the only negative about the Sequoia IMO. Well that and the $50k+ price tag. There aren't enough options in the SR5, I would recommend a Limited for sure.

Great 4 wheel drive, roomy, does have some common small issues but not too bad. I get around 14 miles to the gallon.

What year are you looking at purchasing? I'm also a member over at TundraSolutions so there is tons of info there, worth checking out.

Well, anything with 3 rows and body-on-frame will equal low teens in MPG. No way around it...even if it had a V6.

For perspective, the current Honda Pilot (V6, unibody, no low range, AWD) gets mid teens...maybe high teens on highway. So, what folks are getting with Sequoia isn't all that shocking.

Only the newer gen unibody crossovers get low to mid 20's by way of synthetic oil, direct injection, wind tunnel tuning, high tensile steel (low weight), low rolling resistance tires, low drag brakes, stop-engine off thingy, cylinder deactivation, etc.. In other words, tons of (expensive) tricks to get 20-25 mpg! And none can tow as good as the big boys (e.g. Sequoia, Expedition, etc.).

So, if you just want to carry people and fuel economy, then look at the crossovers. You have no choice.

If you need to carry people AND tow / off-road, then open your wallet and never look back!

Not really too many complaints for the newer Sequoia's other than price and gas mileage. There were frame rust issues and broken tailgate latches on the 1st gen models.

Mine is the 4.7L V8. The newer 5.7 V8's are sized better for the vehicle overall . At times, I feel the 4.7L V8 is lagging when it comes to horsepower but alright with the torque. I really have no complaints with towing.

my pops has a first gen (2005) with 350k miles, general maintenance, treating the car right, along with luck go along way. He also didn't replace the timing belt/ water pump until 300k miles. also replaced the radiator at that time too. those cars are beats. Hope you got one, good luck!

We are looking at sequoia's and GMC Yukon, the new ones are quite nice on the inside and they also last a long time.

My mom has an 05 V8 LTD 4WD. It is loaded with Nav, DVD, rear buckets, 3rd row, etc. She's in love with it after previously owning a Tahoe that was nothing but problems. They live in the mountains in New Hampshire and it has no problems in the blizzards and ice storms they deal with. She got it months ago and still raves about it every time we talk on the phone. I especially love the room it has, particularly the second row. I'm 6'5" and with the front seat back all the way I still have PLENTY of legroom, and i usually only find that in BMW 7 series sedans. They get about 14mpg in theirs, but that is a victim of the geography of their location. lots of hills, stopping, slowing down etc. They drove it from NH to Ohio the day after they bought it and achieved 19.8mpg.

Highly recommend it. She's put a timing belt/water pump, changed the oil and it has been nothing but reliable for her. Gotten them through some nasty winter storms. That's the only way a Toyota knows haha.

A lot of these automobiles are riddled with problems. The MDX apparently has had a ton of electrical issues since 2014, a few owners on that forum even spoke of trading them in for a 4runner lol.

2015 Yukon’s have a cabin pressure/noise problem that hasn’t been resolved.
I looked at Mercedes GLK, the list goes on and on.

All roads point back to Toyota, the problem is the Sequoia maybe too big for us and in comparison to other large SUV’s, is a thirsty beast.
Not to mention that I have read/heard that the Sequoia is on it’s way out, has anyone else heard about this and can elaborate more?

So another 4runner might be in our future lol.

My sister had a Sequoia for close to 10 years, not one problem. My wife had an MDX for 6 years and not one problem and now has an X5 and that's been perfect for 3 plus years now. If you can swing it......Land Cruiser and be done with the for many years to come, hands down my best vehicle to date.

look for a 1st gen. they are smaller.

I have considered a sequoia myself, but I think I will end up with a PSD Excursion instead. as I need it to tow heavy...

An LC is at 80. 10k difference is well worth a much more capable truck, granted you loose a foll row of seating. I would buy a 100k Toyota over 100k anything else, LC is pure luxury and it will outlast all of the competition, win/win.

2011 Land Cruiser I purchased as a left over on 9/13/2012

And like I said earlier, hands down the best vehicle I've had to date. I can't think of one thing that I don't "like" about it. Amazing on road manners with the KDSS, Great in the sand on the beach, great even with the stock tires in the snow, and that 5.7 V8 HAULS ASS, Dam fast for a 6k pound truck. The 3rd row (I removed mine) is plenty big for 2 adults. Heat/AC and the sound system are great as well.

Landcruiser frustrates me. Damn expensive and resale is insane. On paper I can afford one but I would by no means be a cash buyer. I just can't justify that kind of expense on a vehicle and after dropping 50k on my 4Runner I told myself I won't buy new/spend that kind of coin again.

The 2013+ used LC's are beauts... just not prepared to go there. If it's in your wheelhouse I think the LC is an incredible looking vehicle. Keep in mind re-designs are likely very soon for both the Sequoia and LC.
