Toyota vs. Zurich Warranty & Undercoating ?'s.

Does anyone have experience with a Zurich extended warranty? I take delivery on my new white TRD Pro next week and my dealer is pushing a Zurich warranty. I am pretty set on the Auto Armor undercoating since I live in Illinois and plan on keeping it 10 years and giving it to my son for his first car.

Any shared experiences would be great.

Anything the F&I guy is selling is a bad deal. The only extended warranty that isn't complete crap is the Toyota one.

Warranty

The Toyota warranty can be purchased with zero deductible and is good at any Toyota dealer.

I had a bad experience with a non-dealer warranty in the past with the deductible plus they try to get out of paying and add delays.

I don`t know if you can still buy from another dealer at discount, you may try a forum search. 2 years ago I bought mine for $600 less than what my dealer was selling it for.

They are an ok company. Just remember they have 100% mark up on those products so make sure you negotiate. They will deal as the f&i office would rather sell it at a discount the not at all. Most of their pay is based on penatration numbers.

Most of their pay is based on penetration...
I knew it!

Every time I have bought a vehicle from a dealer, I let the F&I guy know I wasn't interested in anything they were selling, and they have all been cool about it and just type up the paper work.

I cannot remember EVER a good word for any 3rd party wty on this forum.

FYI, the Toy EW can be discounted too, if you're a good negotiator. Even Toy EW margins are very high. It really should be negotiated with the new sale, but you might be past that.

I am not past that point yet. I got quotes from several other area dealers and I will offer my dealer the option to match them on a Toyota backed warranty. I paid exactly window sticker for the truck so I will be doing everything I can to drive the price of their warranty down.

If you can't get a good price for the warranty I wouldn't worry about it. We drive one of the most reliable trucks on the road, aside from an expensive power train issue (which the truck comes with a decent warranty on) there isn't much that you can't fix on your own for the cost of the warranty.....now if it was a jeep......

I do have experience with a Zurich extended warranty. I bought one from the Honda dealer that I bought my used 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee from.

I paid something like $2000 for the 100k mile warranty with a $100 deductible.

The Jeep had 30k miles when I bought it, by the time I reached 100k miles, I figure the warranty had paid somewhere around $6000 in repairs.

They never gave me any trouble with the claims and paid the Jeep dealer that I took it to for service directly.

The only time they did question the claim was my very last claim when at 99,840 miles the exhaust manifold warped/cracked and bolt broke and had to be replaced. And even then they just wanted the dealer to photograph the odometer to confirm the miles.

I have nothing bad to say about the Zurich warranty they did good by me.

However, since I bought my Toyota new, I did buy the Toyota extended warranty with it. I bought the 125k miles 0 deductible version for around $900.

I am now at a little over 100k miles on my Runner and have not needed the warranty for anything yet. BIG difference from a Jeep!

I've had Wynns and Zurich for extended warranties. Wynns was by far the best and I actually made out on it. I had Zurich on a Saab and it was a JOKE. They wouldn't pay for the full price on many of the repairs because the part was 'priced too high'. After that I won't get an aftermarket warranty. I'd rather pay out of pocket.

Engineer, what expensive power train issue do you speak of?

Whoops, sorry read that as a "known issue" kinda thing instead of an example of circumstance.

Sorry I was unclear, I didn’t mean that there is an expensive power train issue. I meant that aside from having one the warranty will likely not pay for itself because most other things can be fixed for less than the cost of the warranty, especially if you do the work yourself. I have never really believed in insurance/warranties expect for Catastrophic events (house burning down, death, long term medical issue etc). I like high deductibles and having a Health care savings account!
