Toytec Boss Front Suspension Noise

That is interesting. I have a squeak noise that I hear in the front. I wonder if this is what is causing it. It is headed into the shop on Friday to be looked over. I only hear a metal squad noise at low speeds. One that I can replicate by simply rocking the car when it is parked.

I do have the same squeak and a thunk when fully locked turning....

This sounds similar to what I have experienced. The toytec guys said the other thing that could cause some noise is the front lift being set to high. They had me measure from my hub to the fender. On my rig it was 22.5 inches. They said that was perfect and set at 2.5". They also said the radiator spacers should do the trick. Got my fingers crossed

I had the same issue as the OP. In my case it ended up being contact between the sway bar and the radiator support. Spacers are provided for the radiator supports. In my case the sway bar is not symetrical so it was only making contact on the left radiator support. I ended up removing the skid plate, removing the left radiator support grinding a significant amount of metal out of the support, welding a cap on it for strength and reinstalling everything.

Made all the difference in the world. smooth as butter now.

Do you have the KDSS or just the sway bars? I still think it is the radiator support or something other than the actual suspension making the noise.

I do have KDSS and I really hope this is the solution. If not I have no idea where to look next

To troubleshoot mine I actually borrowed a friend's go-pro and mounted it to look down the sway bar. Then I drove until I heard the clunk and watched the video. The sway bar movement is pretty interesting to watch and there were several situations it made contact that were caused by different vehicle dynamic movements from cornering to speed bumps etc.

Once I pulled the left radiator support I could see scratches on it and the sway bar where the paint had been worn away. But it was hidden until I pulled it.

I do have KDSS and I really hope this is the solution. If not I have no idea where to look next

UPDATATE:

The Spacers were not the issue at all. And for the record KDSS systems require NO SPACERS whatsoever when installing a TOYTEC Boss or Ultimate kit.

My ball joints on my Light Racing UCA's had gone bad. They were part of the batch that has been known to have problems. Light Racing stepped up and warrantied the ball joints. But huge kudos to Hi Country 4x4. They totally stepped up to the plate on this one. They didn't charge me a dime for the diagnosis, repair or the necessary alignment. I know I bad mouthed them previously but I was horribly wrong and will eat any necessary crow. Maybe I'll learn to make sure I know what I'm talking about next time

Wanted to find out if there are any updates to this issue. I'm having the same problem with my 16 TE w/kdss. Toytec Boss with Dobinson UCA's.

My left front clunks and it sound like it's bottoming out, over small bumps and it seems worse when the car is cold.

Apex (who installed in 4/2017) says its the From Body Mounts (in this thread) mine seem tight, possibly the UCA's? Dobinsons are fully sealed so they should not fail or require maintenance, so whats left?

Does anyone have a clear solution here?

I would check the bottom coil mount that looks like a heim bushing,it connects to your lower control arm. make sure you're using the correct bolt and its tight. my lower bushing went on my boss coilovers and it sounded like a metal on metal thump every time going over bumps. I replaced my heim bushings with polyurethane bushings,problem solved.

You might also want to check upper coilover mounts to make sure the three nuts are tight and it's seated correctly.
