ToyTec Superflex Rear Coils

I'm about to pull and sell mine. They are supposed to be a progressive weight coil, problem is, between my CBI rear bumper and tire carrier, 1st Gen roll bar and the approximate 60lbs of tools I carry with me they just can't handle the weight. They are basically a linear rate spring because at my everyday weight, the top portion of the coil is fully compressed. Any significant bump on or off road and I am hitting my bump stops that are just long enough to save my extended length Bilsteins. There is a reason basically EVERYONE that wheels hard with tools, full skids, sliders and bumpers runs the 861 or 851. My truck doesn't look sagged, it just can't take bumps.

All after only a few short months. Bummed about it really, anyone want these?

I would take them off your hands but I have the same concerns/future issues. I have a CBI bumper waiting to be taced on as well as the spare tire and extra stuff. Where could I get the 861s from?

I know Wheelers can get them, I'm going to check with ToyTec.

Edit* ToyTec has them also and is cheaper on shipping for me + they offer an active duty military discount. I support those that support me.

I'm also concerned about the weight, but it doesn't seem I have quite the problem some of you do with over 600lbs extra. I would be at no more than 400lbs over stock weight in the back once I get the bumper. I know the site says it'll give 3 inches of lift with 400lbs, but would still like a little rake. At least I know it'll hold the weight better than the 890s in there now would.

The only reason these may "handle" the weight better is because they are taller to start out with. My setup basically looks like a lift coil with a spacer on top because of the constantly compressed top winds.

My 891's are still holding up fine. The only problem is the top part of the coil tends to pop out after a day's of wheeling. Guess my extended bump stops aren't extended enough. I thought about getting these but after seeing your disappointment with them NateMob I think I'll pass on them. Especially considering I definitely carry more weight than you do.

I dont carry much weight in the back so Im still debating, hate to hear about the negative aspects as I really want to like these springs.

Any pictures Nate?

4RunningDaily, we gotta meet up at some point, I want to see how they ride in person! I'll bring MillerPKA along so he can b!tch and moan about his cam-cam.

I like the ride on mine a lot and they have a tiny bit of rake with 3" up front, but I might add some 10mm spacers to add a little more rake. I haven't loaded them up yet, but I hope they don't sag too much because I really don't want to be broleaning. I'd say for a DD and stock bumper in the back they are perfect, but if I had a lot of weight I'd go 861's.

Only a few thousand miles on my super flex coils, so far I really like them. They handle a load well, they also ride nicely with no cargo.

Here ya go, i had this photo earlier but for some reason i cant post photos thru Tapatalk anymore. I didnt realize how bad it was til i took this photo but the top SIX coil winds are compressed together! :redbrick: on flat ground, in my work parking lot.

Thats actually how they are supposed to be and there isn't anything wrong with them. That way when you flex it out, the upper coils will expand and prevent the coil from unseating. The Superflex's are meant to be a linear rate coil.

890's, 891's, and 861's are the same way.

Thanks for the clarification Dylan, i thought they were designed to be progressive. Never seen a coil designed to collapse like that. I guess the only thing "wrong" with them is they cant handle the kind of weight most serious offroaders are going to throw at them.

My 890s never sat like this, even with the bumper and roll bar. What coils do you run on your rig?

No prob. We made them that way for the people running lc shocks or longer so they wouldn't unseat. On one of the 4Runners at the shop, the 890's came unseated at full flex with the shocks that are in it so we wanted to prevent that but not give it a crazy amount of lift.

Always good to hear feedback though! Would anyone be against us bumping the spring rate up?

I wouldn't mind at all. They flex like mad, i just cant stand bouncing off my bumpstops all the time.

Oh btw I have the 861's. With my heavy ass bumper, 35 spare, cargo box, fridge, hi lift, etc etc etc, I'm at 4 inches of rear lift

I am running lc shocks with 890 at the moment and they unseat at the top but I bent a piece of metal as a "spring retainer" at the base of the spring. Looking to upgrade to this longer coil but the ability to handle weight is giving me second thoughts. Bumping up the spring rate would probably be what it takes to pull the trigger on them.

They can handle weight. It just depends on how much weight you're gonna have and how much lift you want with that weight.

I would be at no more than 400lbs, and would like it to sit fully loaded about the same height (maybe a little higher) as my 890s unloaded (no extra rear weight). Not looking for crazy rake, just enough. Maybe the current rate would work? Thanks for sharing the knowledge.
