TPMS Light Issue

Hey guys, the following is from a new member with zero posts named [MENTION=152112]odenspike[/MENTION]. I get a LOT of questions from zero post guys but I don't know the answer to this one. [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION] have you ran across this? Anyone else feel free to chime in. Sounds like he has been through the ringer already. From the pm:

"Hi, sorry to PM you with a question. I just joined so can't post yet and I really need some input. I didn't know if you could post a question for me. I recently replaced my factory 2016 limited wheels with 17" Trd wheels and bfgs. No issues with the wheels and tires themselves as you'd expect but the tpms light shows a fault and the dealer hasn't been able to figure it out yet. They first thought there was a broken tpms sensor and blamed the tire shop but then they checked them and they were transmitting but the computer wasn't receiving so they replaced the antenna on the tpms computer. The computer now reads them but fault light won't go out so they then replaced the entire tpms computer. Light still won't go out. They are now elevating it to Toyota technical support to see if they have any further suggestions. I've searched and haven't found similiar problem. Have you ever come across such an issue before. My first mod isn't off to a good start! Ha. Thanks for help. Charlie"

Thanks for the help guys! I'm under warranty so that is good but I'm tired of all the back and forth and hoping somebody encountered this and I can give the dealer some further suggestions also. Just strange it all happened after the tire swap but all the components appear to be working. Thanks.

Just throwing it out there ZPC fix ? Would it be part of sensor or stretched a wire ?

Basics. It worked before the wheels/tires. No idea, but I'd start there.

Edit: How about the old battery disconnect overnight? Desperate times, etc.....

Yeah that's what I was thinking it worked before but not now. But when they said at first the sensors were transmitting and registered but the receiver wasn't picking them up it seemed to rule out anything that the tire shop could have done.

I almost asked that today did they disconnect the battery but figured maybe that would have been to obvious but maybe not!

They said they did check for shorts etc. I figured they would haven went ahead and tried to replace the sensors at this point but I guess since they can confirm that they are transmitting and the computer does read them that there isn't anything wrong with them. But now they've replaced everything but the sensors.

These are the wheels and used the suggested tire size if that makes any difference. TRD Pro Black 17 x 7 Wheel (1) PTR20-35110-BK

Unrelated to the TPMS, it's one of the few systems that isn't really tied to anything else.

Do you know what the DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) for that fault was?

I assume it's a weird one if they replaced the antennae and the module, there isn't much else to replace after that...

I haven't seen one where a module didn't fix a transmission issue....

Totally unrelated but I had unplugged son's 05 tpms ecu for like 3 months with thought of doing the mod on it , home for Xmas vaca & started to do the mod & low & behold no more tpms light blinking or otherwise idk why , how or wtf ! But still all 5 working !

Just a thought, the tire shop may have given you the wrong frequency tpms sensors. That would show up as working with a shop diagnostic tool, would also throw an error on the trucks tpms.

[MENTION=99702]jrandom[/MENTION] raises an interesting point. Did the tire shop use the oem sensors or new ones?

Did you get a Trd wheel for the spare? Wonder if they put a sensor in that wheel and it's tripping the code? Spit balling. I have exact same setup and I'm good.

They are the factory sensors. They just took them off of my stock wheels.

They didn't say what the code was.

No trd spare. it's just my luck.

I mention as there is a lot of room for error. If the shop where busy, especially.

They had to remove them from your old wheels and move them over to the new wheels, anything could have happened. Seems the most plausible to me, I would start there and be insistent until you know for a fact that the ones you have are what they need to be, THEN start worrying about tearing your dash apart to replace components. It does make any sense that what worked, is now borked, from just replacing your wheels/tires.

Well guys, jrandom wins the prize! Dealer just called me and said they spoke to Toyota tech support and they told them to check the serial numbers on the sensors and they found 2 that were nowhere in range with the other 2 so they said that Firestone most definitely broke 2 and replaced them and didn't say anything. Still doesn't explain why the dealer initially said it was a bad receiver antenna, but at least I know now. Frustrating that Firestone conveniently failed to mention that. It's either that or some how from the factory they had 2 random sensors in there which is probably not the case.

I can't believe they didn't bother to tell you, well actually I can, people can be dicks, all the time you have spent on this because of them, they should be dropping you a cookie, like giving you a free TRD spare tire, doubt they will but you never know :
