TPMS reset possible on a 2006 Sport??

Without going to the dealer? I swapped out my winter tires that where blinking all winter long because I don't have sensors on them. Now that I have my summer tires installed WITH TPMS sensors on them, how do I make the light STOP flashing? I need a reset procedure if possible without going to the dealer$$$

It sounds like you now have the correct tires installed. If that's the case, the computer should find the sensors on its own and stop the light. You may have to drive around for a while (maybe an hour?) before the light stops.

There is no reset procedure. If that doesn't work, a trip to the dealer is the only answer.

If theyve been sitting that long the sensors will be asleep. Wake them up by dropping the pressure more than 15 psi in 30 seconds. Then set the pressure back up. The computer should find them in under 15 mins.

Never heard of this with Toyotas. Do you have a reference for this from somewhere? Once a Toy TPMS is activated (at delivery by the dealer) there is no sleep or off mode.

The ECU should sense the TPMS's as soon as they were in range. I store my summer wheels near the garage and my light will reset in the winter within minutes of being near them as long as my ignition is on. The blinking indicates a fault with either the sensors or the ECU. The low pressure steady light indication will override a blinking fault indication if it is the sensors. Let the pressure out of each tire one at a time below the 26 psi threshold. If the light goes steady then you know that sensor is OK so refill the tire and move to the next one. If you don't get any steady lights at all then it's an ECU fault.

This is correct. Either your sensors are not functioning properly or the ECU is having an issue talking with them. I do the same, my winter wheels have the TMPS programmed and whenever I park next to them the light will go out.

how difficult is a faulty sensor to replace? all my tires and the spare are up to where they need to be but the low pressure light is solid on. Any suggestions?

The tire will need to be dismounted to replace the sensor and then programmed to the truck.

The sensor runs about a $100.

I forgot i was asked for a reference for the sleep mode. This is from TSB PD007-03 "TIRE PRESSURE SENSING TRANSMITTER ACTIVATION PROCEDURE – Revised September 8, 2003"

2. Press the valve core to reduce the tire inflation pressure rapidly by 6 psi (0.4 kgf/cm2,
40 kPa), or more within 30 seconds. If the tire inflation pressure is NOT reduced by
6 psi (0.4 kgf/cm2, 40 kPa) or more within 30 seconds, the tire pressure sensing
transmitters will NOT be activated.

This operation is required for the system to be activated and must be performed for
each tire (including the spare tire), one at a time.

We're selling them at about $112 per sensor, and you're gonna have to find someone who has a TIS TechStream Scantool to program them with. Usually only the dealer will have the factory scantools, but some shops may have them or the TechStream Lite.

Have an '06 4runner and recently had the TPMS blinker start flashing....I had this be before and found a utube reset that had me turn key on and do something...but can't seem to find it...does anyone know how to do the reset with an '06 4 runner without the reset button???
And, yes all tires (including spare are checked and good) Makes me frustrated that the utube post with the reset has been removed!

I just went through this on my daughters '05 4Runner and my '05 GX470. Flashing TPMS lights on both vehicles. Apparently 11 years is max lifespan on these things.

Took the 4Runner to a local reputable tire shop. Replaced all 5 sensors, rebalanced tires, registered sensors to ecu... all for under $450! Problem solved! The sensors are "VDO-Redi" brand. Also got a new spare tire since the original was still under there.

The GX470? Since I'm old skool and it's my daily driver, I simply snipped the blue wire and grounded it. No more TPMS issues for me ever again.

This morning on the freeway the dash lit up with the Check engine, VSC, TPMS lights all illuminated and the truck felt like it went into limp mode. I have the Slyfox bypass kit installed. I cleared the codes (P2445 & C1201) and everything went back to "normal" with one exception...the TPMS light will blink for about a minute and then go solid. All five tires are at 32/33 psi. It seems like I had some sort of electrical issue.

Will the TPMS eventually return to normal? Not sure how to interpret this since the light changes from blinking to steady. Thanks!

No the TPMS is in no way connected to the other systems, the TPMS will not reset itself because one or more of the sensors' batteries have died, the sensor/s needs too be replaced.

my '07 has had the solid TPMS light on for a few years. dead batteries. didn't want to spent over $500 for toyota parts and install. a small piece of black electrical tape costs about 1/1000 of a dollar! light is a dummy light, so no connection to anything else. i check my pressure visually and by gauge every now and then. no biggie.

Does the Slyfox kit have anything to do with the TPMS sensors or ECU?
Have you checked the tire pressure in all of your tires, including the spare?

If all you did was reset the other codes then they're probably going to return.

If the sensors and ECU were working prior to the other lights coming on then they probably need to be reset/uploaded to the ECU. It's also possible you have a bad sensor as well as a low tire at the same time.

Check the pressure of all 5 tires and air up to 32 PSI. See if the solid light goes away and you have only the flashing light. If so, lower each tire, one by one, to 20 PSI and see if it goes back to solid light. If so, the sensor in that tire is working. Air it up to 32 PSI again and go to the next tire and repeat.

When you lower a tire to 20 PSI and it doesn't stop the blinking, that's the one with the bad sensor. If you have multiple bad sensors then you'll send a reader to see which ones are bad. OEM sensors are probably DENSO and some shops say they cannot read them, but there are devices that can read and then write them back to the ECU, but you'll need a shop to install new sensors.

The tape is a solution and I agree on not wanting to give $500 to replace the sensors. I bought a TPMS device and then bought new Denso sensors on Amazon. I had to pay a tire dealer to break down the tires and install the sensors but I was able to program them myself with the TPMS device. Another solution is to just pay a tire shop to install and write to the ECU a different brand of sensor, something they support.
