T4R VS Jeep liberty

So a new friend of mine just got a jeep liberty. He claims it is the hands down winner in a face off with my Rig. I don't know anything about the Jeep libertys to to give him grief about. any fuel for the fire i want to unleash? be kind, he is a friend with a poor choice of SUVs in my opinion. I got an 05 sport with V8, 4x4, and after market charcoal leather that is allright.

I went wheeling with a liberty and a wrangler, and neither of them could do the lines I did. We didn't even do anything serious that day. See

Andries, did the Liberty have the optional LSD (Trac-Lok i think)?? It probably won't make a big difference (i heard that it was a crappy LSD). Wrangler also has that option too.

My GF was really interested in purchasing a Jeep Liberty, however, I talked her into her Highlander.

I was surprised how much interior and exterior noise emits from the Jeep Liberty (even at idle).

Anyways, my GF's primary concern are comfort, reliablity, resale. So she has the limited with Navigation (which does have a nice screen - larger than the T4R).

I think she made a good decision.

Wifey drives a 05 Limited Liberty. They are not even in the same ball park with the 4runner.

Yep that is what the guy said he had, but from what I have seen he might has well have been open.

You don't need to know anything about the Liberty - as someone mentioned before just offer to compare them in the real world. He'll get the point.

I only like a few things about the libby,

1. Has a lever for the 4wd, not a switch.
2. There is no traction control in 4wd, or 2wd!
3. Its easy to service

What I hate.

1. NO ABS!!!
2. Gas Guzzler, only gets about 18mpg on a good day.
3. Im too tall to get comfy in it.
4. Engine noise!
5. Has had at least 2 recalls that I know of.
6. Dealing with the idiots at Jeep Service (worse than toyota!)
7. Suspension is very firm and jolty
8. If you dont put on your seat belt, it has this annoying chime that rings untill you buckle up.
9.My wife insisted on it over a 4Runner.

Trail rated huh? As evidenced by bulldog-yota's videos I beg to differ. Chrysler needs to re-think their slogan because it surely doesn't even come close to living up to the "trail rated" slogan.

I had a Liberty as a loaner for a few days and what I could not get over was that it guzzled gas and yet it was really pretty small and very sluggish to drive. It also drove like a top heavy truck designed a decade ago. I concluded it must have lead lined wheels to keep it from toppling over.

What I hate.

Do you mean stability control?? Most Liberty come with ABS.

There is one thing that is decent on the Liberty...the front IFS control arms are made of iron-cast. This means that it's strong, but heavy as hell and doesn't help in handling. The rear axle is pretty much junk (I think that it is Dana 35C...worst Dana design ever!).

Trail rated huh? As evidenced by bulldog-yota's videos I beg to differ. Chrysler needs to re-think their slogan because it surely doesn't even come close to living up to the "trail rated" slogan.

The ONLY Jeep that i truly respect is the Wrangler...more specifically, Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. The Rubicon is just a beast in off-roading off the showroom floor. The only Jeep that is still body-on-frame design with solid axles...and, amazingly, one of their better crash-testing vehicles!

Comparing a T4R and a Liberty?

You are kidding us right?!?

There is NO comparision between a Toyota 4Runner and a Jeep Liberty!

The closest vehicle to the Liberty that Toyota makes is the Rav4.

The 4Runner can be compared to the Jeep Grand Cherokee.

PERIOD.

If I was a mean person I'd say anyone who thought these 2 vehicles were similar in features or abilities was stupid! In fact, If I was a mean person, I'd say anyone who didn't realize this fact and point it out to anyone who raised the question in the first place is stupid.

tried a new one

We have a new liberty in our motor pool, so i was curious how it compared on the road to my cherokee classic.
What a piece of crap. Didn't handle as well, felt higher and tippier,
didn't like the short hood line compared to my cherokee,
in short jeep went backwards on this one. I don't think there is any comparo to a t4r on or off road, the vehicles are in 2 different classes. crap vs quality.
For some reason consumers says that the liberty does have excellent resale value. I called a relative who works for them to ask why the Liberty was a "reccomended " vehicle when it didn't have a single above average rating except for resale. He repeated consumers bullshit rules that if it was average or better it could be a "pic"
Thats why I don't listen to any one rag.
