Traction off switch write up for 4th gen v6&v8

*BEFORE BEGINNING*
In addition to turning off the traction control, this will also disable stability control and ABS braking.

I decided to do a write up after having a little bit of trouble finding the best way to disable the traction control in my 2003 sport v6. However i was able to find a video that showed an inexpensive way to get the job done. So this is merely a fresh write up for everyone. This mod can be activated with the truck running while in park. To REconnect the ABS, TRAC AND STABILITY. turn the switch to the off position and turn the truck off then back on to reset the computer. This mod has worked great and was done with supplies i already had on hand.

Disabling the trac. is done by first locating the pressure switch on the front of the master cylinder for the brakes. (Just below the tank with the wires exposed.





Disconnect the plug and locate the RED wire.





Cut the wire. Giving yourself enough wire on each side to solder or crimp new leads for a switch.






However you decide to attach the switch, make sure to protect against moisture. Wiring completed, we ran the switch leads through the fire wall following the throttle cable. Most 4th gens already have cut outs for switches. Simply follow up past the fuse panel to run the switch.

I was still able to use the switch panel insert and just drilled through to mount the switch.

THE HOT GLUE WAS ONLY TO HOLD THE SWITCH WHILE EPOXY SEALED THE SWITCH FROM THE BACK, I DID NOT HOT GLUE A SWITCH TO MY DASH

Frys electronics and most likely any store of that sort. Yes! Ive had great results using this mod in 2wd, 4hi and 4lo. As far as being 06 v8 AWD, i dont think that makes a difference with this mod. As long as youre able to locate the pressure switch and its wired the same, you should be good.

you should also warn people that you need dremel the grove in the switch so you can flip it around.That switch is normally cover down is off and up then toggle for on. The red wire needs the opposite where you cut the connection to disable vsc/abd/trac. so you need this to be always on and flip to turn off.

Very true, to figure which was on (for the TRAC to be turned off) and which was off (to turn back on). There were fins in the back of the OEM switch insert that we did have to grind down. in this we used a bench grinder. Thanks for the support and edits!

This is the back of the switch insert, ground down so the switch can sit flush in the rear. Careful when grinding down the fins, making sure not to hit the main two clips on either end. For extra support behind the switch, Epoxy was added.

[MENTION=108516]T4Rzuniga[/MENTION] Great write up! I did this mod a while ago and love it. Another option if you don't want to run new wires through the firewall you can simply tap the same wire at the skid control module under the dash and place a switch on that.

I understand the 2WD guys, but in 4WD isnt this just accomplishing the same thing as locking the center diff w/o having to lock the center diff?

Is there that much advantage to having this option w/o locking the center diff ?

i personally like this mod because its not any more ware and tear on additional drive terrain parts. also ive heard stories of the center lock not disengaging and locking up the tires if not cycled often. other than that, its all about preference. i liked how my 98 4x4 had no computer interference while off roading and in my opinion, the vehicle is more predicable.

Far as I know, you are correct. I have done the VSC defeat mod, but the various braking (TRAC, Hillhold, etc.) functions are still enabled.

Looks like until control of the VSC ECU is possible, no fine control of the braking related functions is possible other than shutting it all off.

I had thought of sourcing a junkyard 08-09 VSC ECU but said to heck with it, did not need it that bad, just a chronic fiddler.

So clipping a wire on the yaw sensor and tying it in ti the switch is too easy to be possible I guess?
