While the Lexus brochures are big and beautiful, they are lacking in content. It is very obvious that they are appealing to a different market than Toyota. Lots of fluff IMO.

Fluff? Well I guess you're right if you consider the three full pages in my '03 GX brochure devoted to nothing more than pics of a ski slope, a boardwalk leading into a nature preserve, and a giant rock posing in a field to be fluff Not to mention there's NO pic of a GX on the front cover, just a pic of what I'm guessing is the entrance to a fancy mountain resort. And I suppose the lovely little poem about "A Moment" with a pic of kids flying a kite on the beach could be considered fluff as well However, if you dig deep enough they have all the usual content and specs - it's just that trying to find it in all the fluff can be difficult.

Those Lexus brochures may not have a lot of information, but the pictures can sell a car alone. The two page picture of the interior with all of the fancy wood and leather are too much to resist. Who needs words!!!

BTW I just had the infamous drive shaft clunk TSB performed yesterday. New driveshaft was $347, new control arm kit was $417 and labor was $238 for a grand total of $1,003.41 :awais: Fortunately it didn't cost me a penny cuz it's under warranty. Seems like the clunk is totally gone now.

Glad you got the clunk fixed, but I still feel bad for the guys here cuz Toyota doesn't want to recognize the Lexus TSB...

Yes the brochure is full of just pictures, but it just shows that they're a little "unique" and that, as someone mentioned, pictures could sell the vehicle.. But all the specs and general info is in the back of the brochure....

Yes I love the picture of the Sand Dollar Pearl GX! I have like 3 copies of this brochure actually.. I would love to have a framed picture of a Sand Dollar Pearl GX because, obviously, i've got a Sand Dollar Pearl GX.

LOL. I know I am in the minority and that most GX owners use theirs for little more than soccer mom duty, but I wish they would promote the vehicles' capabilities more. You obviously know what you have and don't need to be told but most people who read the brohure may think it is just another lux poseur.

I do like the Lexus interior though! (Wish they got rid of the side-opening rear barn door)

I dont know if Gatorgreg picked up one of these, but back when the GX first came out, it won 4X4 of the year, and Four Wheeler of the Year, and to get that spot they totally tested the limits of these SUVs... Too bad I cant find it on the internet, but I have the magazine insert here and they really ABUSED the GX!! Literally, they almost had that thing with one wheel off the ground, they literally tested everything they could think of! :bigok:

Thanks! That's 4 1/2 years of hard work in keeping her clean... And some of you will think of me as an idiot, but I've only used the GX in rain a few times only. :

So her undercarriage is fairly clean still.. :biggrin2:

What happened after 2004, did the compitition catch up or did changes to the GX create the loss.

FourWheeler and Peterson's competition are based on new vehicles or vehicles with significant changes. They basically only test vehicles that reach the market that particular year. For example, in 2003, the GX came out as a new model...and thus, it was in the competition along with other 2003 new vehicles. In 2004, Lexus introduced KDSS suspension in the GX which is a significant addition/change...thus, it was in the competition again along with other new 2004 models. In 2005-2007, there have not been any changes to the GX...thus, it is exluded from these competitions. This is why you don't see the Land Crusier or LX470 in the recent comparisons because they were already in it in 1999 when it first came out.

Interesting, so other vehicles could have done better but were left out because their not new models. I wonder how the GX would stand up against all of the compitition, new and old designs?

Exactly. The GX/4runner ranks pretty high, easily top-20, probably top-10.

I didnt have too many pictures of my GX when she was new, plus I didnt have a nice digital camera back then so you won't easily see the cleanliness of the car. haha
