Traded my 10 SR5 for a 16 Trail

I bought my 10 SR5 at the end of 09. Other than some visual mods (blackening some chrome) and AT tires, I left it mostly stock. I had some ambitions but sort of got comfortable with a nice stock, but reasonably off-road capable, rig. As of late I'd had some renewed interest in modifying my rig (completing the blacking out, new wheels, lift, some trail body parts). Then I started thinking about possibly trading it in on a rig I was more into as far as looks and off road capabilities. Plus mine was getting up there in miles - 108k (nothing for a runner tho).

I looked around and there was only one dealership in the 150 miles around me with a trail. They had a super white base trail for $36500. I went down there with $33k in mind and getting $16k for my SR5. I got them to $35k and they took my $16k offer for the trade. Decided to do it. Think I did ok?

It's a super white 2016 trail. No KDSS. Has locking dif and crawl control. Not really sure what's standard on them now, but Bluetooth, reverse cam, and maybe a couple other things I'm not thinking of right now. Not as many little bells and whistles comfort wise as my SR5 - sunroof, cargo tray, puddle lights, homelink buttons. Not really after that stuff, though I do miss homelink for my garage. I also was a little annoyed they installed a screen in all of them but don't have standard Nav. Overall I am happy with the trade offs.

Got a set of BFG AT KOs (275/75/17) and some gunmetal Level 8 MK6s that I had ordered and were going to be installed on my SR5. Now they'll get installed on my trail, which I think will look great with the white. Going to sell some mounted and stock wheels and tires soon. About a week ago, I bought a set of Phillips crystal vision ultra H11s and 9005s to replace the highs and lows in my SR5. Do you think it will be a worthwhile replacement in the 16 Trail or should I return to Amazon (also have some Silverstar fog replacements that wont work in this)? The lights seemed pretty good, but I may just be new car drunk.

Forgot to mention we're having a decent little blizzard today. I had to go about 45 minutes away from home to get this one. After being there for HOURS, we'd got a decent amount of snow. I had a close call on the way home. Was on the highway going over a bridge. Most were going 45-50. We hit a dense fog bank and couldn't see more than about 20 ft in front of me. All of a sudden out of the ****ing fog bank a car going about 25 with no ****ing lights on and their trunk open appears out of nowhere. I hit he breaks and start sliding, let off the brakes, pointed to the median, fishtail a tiny bit but keep control, until I slow down enough and get back over and around him. That that got my heart going.

Nice! I have the same setup on my 2016 TEP, but my Level 8's are 17x9. I have some rubbing issues, but about to get Bilstein 5100's all around, with 1.75" in front and 1" cornfed spacers in back. After the lift, I'll see if the rubbing goes away, or changes where it rubs -- in order to do some fender mods. You may not have the same issues, but saw that you practically have the same setup.

Congrats on your new ride. I've been contemplating a similar trade for my '10 SR5 which, like you, has only had a few chrome delete mods. I like the new exterior styling, but don't like the new interior nearly as much (I like my orange lighting and simplistic display). I'd definitely want to the KDSS in a premium pkg though. BTW, I bought my SR5 through the Tri-Cities Toyota dealership when I lived in the area.

Without know a lot more little details, I'd say you got a good deal (when considering 4Runners retain their value better than nearly all other vehicles out there).

I was going to go with those but went with the x8s with no offset to hopefully not encounter that. The guy at discount tire talked me into it. I do like that little more aggressive look of the x9+offset look tho. Great looking rig! Can't wait to get my wheels and tires on. How much did you get out of your stockers? Sell wheels and tires?

Yeah I kept going back and forth between just keeping a paid off rig and getting something I was really happy with. I really liked the simplistic orange but really like the full black interior with blue lighting too. I have a slight bit of regret I didn't wait for one with kdss but am ok with it.

Not sure what of it you're still looking to do some chrome delete but I have a set of new black door handles and fog bezels that I need to get rid of.

How much did you get out of your stockers? Sell wheels and tires?

I actually had the Level 8's and BFG's on the 2011 I traded in.... part of the deal was that I keep those, and swap the new ones off the 2016. I've seen the same stock wheels/tires going between $500-$700 (depending on location).
