trading in for an 06 sport 4WD

I'm thinking about trading my 04 SR5 for an 06 Sport 4WD. I love my 04 but after reading all these threads on T4R I'm craving for a 4WD so I can live the good life, plus i like the tube roof rack and tube running boards on the sport.
I have one question about pricing. When I bought my 04 it was one of those advertised specials that i got lucky enough to get. I doubt i'll have this luck looking for a 4WD Sport so here is the question. Most people tell me invoice + $500. does this mean (invoice +$500) or (invoice + destination charge + $500)?

This is the way I see it...invoice includes all charges,(shipping) and anything else. Depending on where you buy,some geographic areas cost more. I live in PA and I paid invoice straight up. But it all depends on which model you want also. According to this board there are really generous rebated being offered on V8 right now. Check around and maybe make an offer to a dealer at invoice .

Not to many people are interested in Suv's or trucks right now(except the smart one's)because of gas. If I had it to do over I'd buy the same truck over again(05 SE V6). Would buy the V8 though,for the towing ability. Good Luck on whatever you buy.Sometimes the lowest price isn't the best deal though...some dealers are just not good. Great product..but the dealer network sucks.

Thanks for the reply beeper. Yah, not too many people interested in SUV's right now and i did notice the great incentives for the V8, however that is still up in the air for me. I doubt i would ever need the extra torque & power but it would be nice if the deal is right.
From what i've read on this and other boards, I think i will go about this in the following way.
There are 4 toyota dealers within 15 miles from where i live so i'll get the e-mail addresses of their respective internet sales manager. Email all of them at the same time with exactly what i'm looking for and let them compete with each other for my sale.

I am in no rush to get the truck so all i have is time to find a deal that's right for me.

If you go on Edmunds.com you can get quotes from all the local dealers after you give your zip code. Only problem with that is you only get a salesperson ,not the manager. I tried that and found most dealers don't give you there best prices. They want to call you and ask if your ready to deal. So of what value it is might be questionable. But it will save time an effort and maybe you'll get a good quote. try the last week in the month. Its a big game ...one I never enjoyed.

I wish it was as simple as when i bought my 04. it was an advertised special (below invoice) and i bought it on new years eve. I spent 1 1/2 hours 2 tops at the dealer before i drove it home.

Does anyone know of any trails in SoCal that i can go wheelin' in with my stock RWD. If i can't go 4wd i'd at least want to get me feet wet and have a sample of what the dirt taste like.

I am sorry to hear that you cant get a 06' 4X4. I know how it is to really want something and not be able to get it. But, it will be worth alot more to you down the road when you can afford one. For now, I am quite confident that your 4X2 will do just fine as the 4Runner is an awesome vehicle regardless of 4X4. Of course, 4X4 will allow you to go places 4X2 wont, but in the most extreme circumstances. For what its worth, I just bought my 06' Sport 4X4 V8 yesterday and am LOVING it. Not to rub it in, but man if you can somehow come up with the cash, its well worth it. This is by far the nicest vehicle I have owned. BTW, my dealer has a 05' Limited 4X4 still on the lot (stickers for $44K, and he is selling it for $34K), so if you have some negative equity, something like this could get you a new 4X4. If you go on the Carmax site and look under new car dealers in the Baltimore Washington area, they own a Toyota dealership in Laurel, Md. They list all their new Toyotas in stock and their "no haggle" price which for the 2006 is about $500 over invoice including delivery. About a month ago, when the 06's first came out, they were advertising 05' 4-runners, V-6 at $1500 under invoice, probably still are. It gives you something to take to the dealer and say, "Can you beat or match Carmax?"

Paulnohio & claydoctor good lookin' out. those are some excellent deals. i was able to get exactly invoice w/o haggling. but, like i said i'm not financially ready it. sucks. I only have two years left to pay my current 4runner and i just don't want to make it another 4 years or even 6 years.

but, yeah i guess it will be that much better when i am finally able to get one. just wish it happened sooner than later. maybe, i should take a trip to vegas so i can win some truck money. lol.

Well, even though you are driving a 4X2, it is still a 4Runner (which is by far the best midsized SUV on the market). So, at least you have a great vehicle until you get what you want. I hope that you eventually get what you want!

I'm not real familiar with the 4th gens but stick a rear locker on that 2WD and that will get you through more than you think.

Yeah 4runners are the bombay (that's a good thing) this is actually my 2nd runner. my first was a 98 base model 4cyl and now i have this 04 SR5.

A buddy of mine has an early 90's model and has over 350,000 miles. He says it runs nearly as good as when he bought it. Cant be a 4runner, unless you can afford a Landcruiser
