I drive on the road with both swaybars. I am running extended rear swaybar links (stock 2nd gen links) so I leave those on when offroad. For the front, I typically just remove the link one side. The one link left attached prevents the swaybar from falling down into the lower control arms and saves the hassle and time of removing the entire sway bar. With only one link attached, the swaybar pretty much does nothing in terms of limiting the suspension on either side. I get pretty good compression/ extension with this setup:
