Trail edition factory roof rack

I got a replacement knob for my trail edition crossbar at Ace Hardware. Was like $5.
I found it in their nut/bolt section of the store in one of the drawers with other knobs. Fit perfectly.
I don’t have the part number though. It had a bigger thumb/finger area so it’s easier to tighten/loosen.

I'm hoping you guys can help me out again. Last time I was trying to figure out how to remove the end caps...now I need to figure out how to place them back on! Obviously I can put them on, but it looks like it's not seated all the way. At the base I can't seem to get it to move forward all the way whereas where it touches the rail it's pretty good. It seems like I have to get it inserted in the rail first. Then it pivots or rotates down and into place. But it hits the base rubber/trim at the back and wont go any further. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but after 30 min I gave up for the evening. I'm afraid I'll break something. I've got some pictures attached for reference of what I see.

Appreciate your help!

Figured it out. When I left the end caps off for a few days, the rubber began to shrink. Used a heat gun and got it in.

These that you pictured are not factory.
They look like prinsu bars in the OG trail rack.

I bought a used trail rack and need your help!

There seems to be a black gasket material that has broken off on every one of the "nubs" where the screws go through and mount to the body. It is rock hard and almost plastic-like. You can see it inside of the metal spacer as well.

Can anyone shed some light as to what this is? I contacted Toyota and they had no clue.

These that you pictured are not factory.

Sorry you’re correct in that they’re not factory. They’re not made / sold by any vendor.

After getting scammed on a used rack, I started thinking why can't I buy a new OG rack from Toyota? Well, there was no info on the part numbers and Toyota dealers had no idea how to figure it out. There was also no info on the instructions manual online.

After a couple of weeks' worth of research and getting a dealer to contact corporate Toyota I finally got it all figured out! There is very limited stock and I also had to provide an OG Tail Vin number (car gurus FTW).

For less than $300 shipped you can get a BRAND NEW OG Trial Rack!
(not sure how many are left in inventory)
Also here is the instruction manual from 2009.

That's amazing info, good job! Specifically, the part number is out there, but it took going to the dealer to find new/old stock.

I believe those are the remnants of the original mastic washers. If you order the fj roof rack mount kit it comes with new ones. I just mounted a used trail rack in the same condition. Ordered the kit, used the foam washer in the kit along with my original mount bolts and rubber coated washers then sealed the mount bolts and haven't had any leaks.
