Trail Edition in deep snow, I am impressed

Here in eastern PA we got walloped with a bunch of snow. I couldnt get anyone to plow my driveway which is ~75 yards long, and is uphill going out to the road. I tried shoveling as much as I could but got frustrated and gave up, and decided to just drive my way out over snow drifts that were 12-15 " deep.

First I tried my 1997 dodge ram in 4 lo, its got 18 inches of ground clearnece so should have easily gone up the driveway. No luck...Just sat there spinning my wheels.

Next I tried my TE in 4 lo and with the differential locked, the 4 runner did not even think twice about making it up the driveway...Even my previous 4th gen Sport Ed. would not have done this...Way to go Toyota!

yup. I'm in York, PA, and after the 3+ feet we got last year, my (at the time) stock TE moved easily through all of it. woke up today to ~ 1 foot and didn't even think to shovel, just put it in D and go!

I don't have a TE, but I'm impressed with my Sr5 in the snow. We just got like 10in of snow the last week, had it in 4hi, had no problem conquering the snow!

My limited was spot on yesterday and today with all the snow we got here on LI. All stock too, no complaints.

Only thing I cant figure out is why the dodge ram had so much trouble...Its got a cap on it, so has some weight in the back..

Only thing I can think of is that the locking differential on the TE is what enabled me to get out.

You can have some of ours!! :biggrin2: fresh coating of 18" lastnight/today. Love it and love driving in it just hate the work headaches that come with all of my employees calling out sick. Maybe I should get them all 4Runners...

JD, in what positive way are you impressed with your 5th gen over 3rd offroad? I used to take my 3rd generation into some interesting terrain in getting to some of my favorite bowhunting spots and never had any complaints. I actually thought the stock suspension on the 3rd gen was a bit beefier then on the 5th. At least it felt that way to me.
