trail edition

There is one at Carmax now (according to their site).

Also, I think the be all end all that KDSS has been touted as is a bit overrated. I definitely think there is benefit (obviously), but the trail STILL suffers from nose dive and that will need to be addressed. I think the best on road out of the box, off the dealership floor option is XREAS. It addresses nose dive, body roll, and on road handling/response. I think the limited is a bit more refined in the interior as well.

Not trying to take anything away from trail owners, but I think it's important to mention that while cornering and body roll are addressed with KDSS, the nose dive and front to back wobble (stopping at stop lights) is still there and just the same as an SR5 (which I found to be not to my liking).

Yep. A very nice silver TE is there for$37k and some change.

Pretty sure there is a mag. grey TE at Go Toyota in Denver sitting on the lot. Talk to Kay at Autonation and I bet she'll gt you a good deal on it. FYI, it's only $650 to ship to Texas.

Primer in how to buy the Toyota (or anything else) of your choice of model, color, trim or whatever you like:
Step 1: Go to Consumer Reports (if you're a member) or any auto buying site.
Step 2: Configure car of your dreams
Step 3: Allow the buying site to contact dealers in your area and wait for them to send you emails.
Step 4: Some models like the 4Runner Trail are in short supply, so the dealers who contact you probably won't have it, but they will do things to get what you want. The dealers who use buying services will actually help you. The ones who don't are less likely to. Because the dealers who use buying services agree to a price for your configuration, that's what you're gonna ultimately pay, but you may have to have a little patience. So you talk to the dealer's internet or online or whatever they want to call them, adviser, sales representative, etc.
Step 5. The internet adviser can look up all incoming Toyotas on his computer and can tell you which configurations meet or are close to your specs.
Step 6: THIS IS IMPORTANT. If your internet adviser can match you up with several units that meet your specs, at least one of them will probably be amenable to a trade for another incoming model and it doesn't even have to be a 4Runner. If he can arrange a trade, you don't have to pay for shipping from the other dealer and you don't have to go to the other dealer. You simply have to pay the agreed price (give or take an option or two that is outside of your specs) as if the dealer actually had already ordered the unit. No muss, no fuss, OK quite a bit of fuss, but you won't have to travel or pay any more.
Follow these steps and you'll probably get what you want within a month or less. If your requests are really outside the box, you may have to wait a bit longer, buy you can still get what you want.
The trade is somewhat better than having one built, because you'll get it sooner. Using the buying service to set your price will allow you to get a fixed price even on something your dealer doesn't have.

Obviously not familiar with KDSS Trails here.

Trail dash is different. Better aesthetically IMO.

since you never answered me I had to go back and see what the difference was between the dash. As I thought, I found very little. So you may want to be sure before you post things as fact.

Limited dash first, then trail dash.

Sorry for not replying. And yes it IS fact. You are the one that said dashes are the same between ALL models. That, my friend, is NOT correct. If you dont know, please dont post. If you get a chance, sit in 12' TE then 12' SR5 with the lights on. Albeit subtle, but again, more aesthetically appealing IMO

Wait a minute... are you now referring to the gauge clusters?? Everyone knows those are different. You said the dashes are different. Jesse said they are "essentially" the same, not exactly the same. Looking at his photos I agree with his statement. Slight color differences and knobs versus buttons.

the TE dash looks just like my SR5 dash (coloring) that the limited... specifically the lighter lower portion. Gauges of course are different.

The dashboard "dash" includes the gauge cluster. And again, yes they are not the same across all models...as has been reported numerous times. Its all good. Its what makes this site so interesting.

It seems that the issue is different understandings of "dash" and whether that includes the "instrument cluster" [term used in manual], the hard plastic area over the instrument cluster and also containing the passenger airbag, or both.

To me, the gauges and instrument cluster are a subset of the dash, but I would not use "dash" when specifically referring to only the gauges. Others obviously have a different understanding.

In other words:
Hardrunner, you are right, the Optitron gauges are different in the instrument cluster, so the TE/LE dash is different than the SR5.
Jesse, you are right, the gauges are the major difference and the rest of the dashboard area is very similar across all models.

Lol, thanks eagle for clarifying the ambiguity. I love this place :lmao:

I guess I'll accept all this. I call a dash a dash, and I call a gauge a gauge:offtopic:

sorry to thread-jack OP. FWIW I found my TE at Thompson Toyota in Edgewood, MD. They have a silver TE there now - not sure of it's features though

I can't seem to find a trail edition at any local dealer. Anyone know why that model is hard to find? and is it worth paying the extra money if you don't plan on off roading?

Almost an impossible task to get an used TE in the Gulf States Region, and new is also a difficult and expensive task. Got mine from Utah, and had to fligh over there to close the deal (had to fligh back the same day ), and had her shipped to TX.

IMHO if you are thinking about TE, get it with the KDSS, even if you do not off-road that much, it is a priceless feature to have ! She corners like a super-model !!!

Cheers,

G.

i flew to chicago from maryland to grab my loaded grey on black limited then drove 700 miles back by myself.. talk about Love

I looked for about 2 months and found my TE in Rhode Island. I was able to negotiate the dealer down $800 under msrp but it cost $900 to ship it to Texas. The shipping took a month and a half but I am glad I waited for the TE. Everyday for a year now I get in my truck and think to myself how much I love this thing. I have never liked any vehicle as much as my TE.
