Trail wheels "better" than TRD Pro wheels?

I think Toyota actually recommends Trail wheels when running OME and King suspensions, while the TRD wheels are recommended when running 5100s and spacers on OEM springs.

Even though I know black wheels would look better on my Trail, it's hard to trade out a wheel on a model that isn't made any more. I guess i'm biased too. But they did look a lot better once I put the ATIIs on.

Always have the option to have the stock trail wheels powder coated

so I think it all depends on what pleases your eye. I saw a white TRD PRO, black badging and black rims look awesome! on my black TRD Off Road I prefer the silver on the rails and the bumpers I like the chrome badging and the silver wheels, it does effectively the same thing, provides contrast. when I put my tires on (next month) I will likely do whitewalls out for still more contrast. no offense to anyone but I think especially on a black 4Runner black wheels and black tires make your tires disappear the Off-Road wheels with whitewalls out makes the tires pop, I think they look bigger too. none of this has any impact at all on performance, though I hear whitewalls out adds 10bhp. I think it's a personal preference thing. the only bona fide facts are width and weight. everything else is taste.

Current wavering on what to do with my OEM Off Road rims.
I bought the T4R with OEM rims but 285/70R17 Repuslor tires from RBP.

I see a post above that 285 needs to stay on the Off Road rims.

Yeah I gave up on both of those places. Cherokee Toyota will price match DT anyway and they've done well for me so far.

Right on! Shannon up there is the man. Not sure if you deal with him, service writer, but hes a good guy. I take the Taco and 4R up to him. Good call. Plus DT is doing their annual $100 off $400 discount right now. hmmmm 295s <3

I just posted this very same question. What did the powder coating run you for the 4 wheels??

really good shop called FlashFire in Oshawa Ontario they did the PowderCoating
they've also done all my Harley parts excellent work and service every time

for these 4 wheels and the 2 roof rails I paid $480
most wheel sets they do $400 even

always an excellent job

I ran 285x70r17 on the 7” wide TRD Pro rims for years, regularly airing down to 12 psi and wheeled some of the toughest terrains on the east coast with zero issues. Anyone who says otherwise is living in theory.

That said I recently moved to 35x10.5s. Yup, still on the original rims...

It goes to show that 90% of all the junk discussed on this, and other, forums is just minutia that doesn't really have a big effect on the capability of the vehicle.

The big stuff like lockers and 35" tires makes a difference but quibbling over .5" wider wheels, 10mm wider tires, or .85" taller suspension is just silly, especially when looking at it the dollar cost of some "mods" versus the tiny (if any) gain in capability.

all anyone's ever said is that that tire manufacturers' recommended wheel width for 285s+ is generally 7.5"+ and that the TRD Pro wheel's 7" width is out of spec according to their recommendations. that's not theory, that's fact.

Dude, chill out, have you looked at my profile? I have a bone stock .'17 that I have owned since November. I am ONLY going by the tire fitment guide on this forum and what the manufacturer's websites say. the person I was responding to had his wheel widths crossed. the only thing I presented as fact is that the TRD's are 7" and the trails 7.5" most data RECCOMENDS you not run 285's on 7" wide wheel. I never said it couldn't be done. deep breaths buddy, you'll make it.

They don't... the smart ones buy FN wheel TRDP clones in 17x8

When and if I upgrade I've been looking at the pro comp 5001-7883 wheels, 3420lb rating and the same weight, 31lbs, as the stock trail wheels. Plus you can find them on sale for $112. Only down side I can see with these is that the valve stem doesn't have socket protection.

I use FJC steelies and Spidertrax.

The dealers in CO know how not to bugger up spa... I mean "hub adapters" when they rotate the tires, and even sell trucks with them installed.

TRD Wheels

Went for the looks. Have a black Trail and love the black on black. Plus got a great deal. Got deal to sell them for $500 and sold the Trail wheels for $400.

What setting are the front Bilsteins at? Have been thinking of the same set up, including the Shrockwork sliders Toytec coils. Can you post a photo. Thanks.
