Trail wheels "better" than TRD Pro wheels?

i think both rims are some of the best looking OEM rims you can buy.

I'm impartial to the trail rims blacked out though b/c of the beefier spokes, but I'd be more than happy to rock either of those options.

Hard too choose between the two:

do you want extra protection of the trail rims, or do you want to save some weight and go with the TRD rims???

2016 TEP wheels work very well and take a reasonable amount of abuse on the beach.
You should have seen the rear wheels after I loaded my 16’ boat over the bank. The bass fishing is often better where there’s no ramp.

I like the trail wheels and the trd wheels, so I am very satisfied with the trail wheels I have. If they were aftermarket, they would be one of the wheels I would consider.

It should say Bass Fishing is "Always" better where there's no ramp. One of the reasons I bought our 4R was to be less hesitant where we launch our little bass boat.

I still like the look of the trail rims as well.

Used to have them plastidipped black and I actually just plastidipped them Bronze Gold a couple days ago. Not sure I am too sold on the Bronze Gold yet though. It's a little too gold for my taste but it's growing on me. At distance they appear a bit darker, but up close I feel like they are bit more on the gold & brighter side.

I did just buy the Brass Monkey plastidip as well and it's on the way nest week I believe. It should be a bit darker and more bronze as well or atleast thats what I am hoping for. Definitely can post up photos of that when it comes in next week though if anyone else is interested once I get it finished up.

Powder coat so far is holding up great! No complaints at all! I would recommend this way 100%

Your wheels look great! Thinking about doing the same thing. Saw someone posted that they would have to have the truck up on stands while the wheels were pc'd. Seems like a huge headache. Is that what you did, or come up with another solution?

I elected for trails over pros for 3 reasons. Bought 50 mile takeoffs for $425, trails are 1/2" wider, and I'm not a fan of matte black anything (personal preference). One gripe I noticed with the trails is they don't have the recessed dimples on the mounting pad to accept the oem studs if I decided to go with 3/4" wheel spacers... This the tips of the oem studs would need trimmed.

Interesting... I'm not quite sure to be honest, if I'm not mistaken I believe the gentleman I had purchased from said he took them off of his slightly newer 4runner about 18 months ago so if I had to guess a 17'.

That's nice to know there's sets out there though with that option, with these being as cheap as they are after I've done a fair amount of off road damage at some point I'll be on the hunt for another set.

Turns out I lied. I double checked. They have machined areas where the stud would fit, but don't totally overlap the stud. I use 1" custom spacers with the 20"wheels. I take them off with the 17s. I'll have to double check fitment but they probably aren't compatible.

Definitely wanted 17 inch OEM rims (giving a better selection of tires than my 20 inch Limited rims and 245/60R20 tires).

And no steelies for me … they rust far too quickly up here on our heavily salted roads during the winter (and I had a bad experience with a rusty steel rim causing an air leak on my old '82 Celica).

The Trail rims won out, as I was able to find a set of 2018 take-offs with very low mileage at a reasonable price.

Here they are just installed today on my 2011 Limited, fitted with Toyo Observe GSi-5 winter tires. Bring on the Canadian winter! :smow:
