That's a tough price to swallow...
IDK about $780. You could have a swing away that welded under the rear bumper put in by a local fab shop. Would be cleaner, less likely to shift around and would also let you reroute the back up camera. You have to relocate the license plate either way.
I feel like this holds the tire too far out if you can fit a full width Jerry can in the gap.

I run a hitch mount tire carrier on my '85. Kills my departure angle and makes accessing the rear a PITA. I wouldn't do it unless you NEED to have the spare out from under the truck (I do). It's not worth it just for the bling factor.

I'm a big fan of removeable "stuff" for offroad trips. If you use your 4runner as a daily driver like I do - I don't want to carry anything extra around when I'm not going offroad. I've been looking at a number of different options for a swing out carrier like that - although I'd probably keep my spare tire underneath and use it for fuel cans and such only.
I don't like the idea of only using the receiver though. I'd much rather have two receiver tubes at the corners. I did that on my last 4runner on the front with a custom bracket. It's much more stable that way, and allows you to use significantly lighter weight materials for the rest of it. But it takes some fab work to get it right. For me it's free. If you don't have the tooling and experience to do it yourself it's too expensive for the value.

Thanks for the inputs. Didn't consider a lot of the problems id run into with one of these products.
