Trails in Pismo?

Going to Pismo and trying to avoid sand is like going to a car wash and trying to avoid water. A) It's probably not going to happen, and B) what's the point of going? Take your girl to Santa Barbra. There's some good trails down there and a much more...romantic...atmosphere. Pismo isn't exactly made for romance lol.
We're visiting her parents, I figured there's some back road behind Pismo hills, so I'm trying to stay around that city. Sand driving is alright, but I don't want to deal with jackasses. Last time I went, some kid almost hit me in his ATV. With summer too, there's going to be a lot of people in the sand too.

I'm not familiar with any trails near Pismo either, but there are some awesome hills around San Luis Obispo/Pismo area, But it's mostly private property though-
I would just embrace the sand and air-down... or maybe talk to some locals and they may point you in a better direction, hopefully some dirt-roads in the hills!
$5 bucks to drive on the beach (very rare for CA), checkout some scenery, chat with some locals, and get a bread-bowl from Splash cafe- sounds like a good time!

Hi Mountain Road is pretty fun, it is not very difficult but there are some great views at the top. You can start in Pozo or from Lopez Lake, I would recommend Lopez if you are coming from Pismo. There may be some shallow water crossings on the Pozo side but a stock runner can make it easily.
You can also do TV tower road that starts at the top of the Cuesta Grade right outside of San Luis Obispo, it goes along West Cuesta Ridge and has some great views of San Luis Obispo. It is a pretty easy drive and I think they did some maintenance recently so it should be easier. You can only go out and back on this trail a rock slide cut off the other end.
