Tranny cooler?

). I decided to buy the Torque Pro app and sure enough, the transmission temp came up (method 2 in case you're wondering). DashCommand apparently does not read it, but my OBD LinkLX does spit it out.

My 4544 + scangauge work well. The 4544 does an excellent job pulling heat out of the trans fluid. I know because the scangauge tells me so as I accelerate uphill here in the Rockies in summer.
I read that when bypassing the stock trans cooler one should go 1 to 2 sizes larger, thus the 4544 with 20,000 btu rating. The BM 70268 with 13,000 btu seems more suited for use in series.

Thanks sd,what is the hottest it gets and what's avg temp in the summer,did you have your scangauge on before the 4544?

I have a '01 SR5 and got the B&M 70268 and it is not up to task, I would go with the TruCool 4544 it is 22,000 gvw the 70268 is only 13,000. I cannot run up hill in OD for long or EVER in 4HI I am forced to upgrade, but am wondering if anyone has had success with a secondary cooler? I am concerned it would be too much "blockage"?

I got my 4544 trucool today,I have read about certain ways it should be mounted for the coolent flow but it says in the instructions"postion the cooler so it's outlets face towards the metal lines entering the radiator,and oil may flow in either direction".
So that means to point the barbs down?

either barbs down or barbs sideways with inlet on bottom.
Those instructions are applicable if you're using the stock cooler in addition to the new one. Stick with what you've read here.

Trucool says any orientation is fine, fittings up, sideways, or down. (fourth FAQ down: Frequently Asked Questions | Tru-Cool) I, and almost everyone else, have mine sideways. if mounted sideways the outlet hose from the transmission plumbs to the bottom cooler fitting, fluid flows up and out of trans cooler's top fitting into the return hose, which returns the fluid to the transmission.

Is the return line on the passenger or driver side,I'm also going to run a magnafine in the return line.

Mine was down maybe 1/3 of a quart when I installed it. About 1/3 brought me back up to full hot.
Id be curious of this also

Not sure but I droped my pan and filter and let drain a few days and got 8.5 qts.
Update, it doesnt work, do not buy it, maybe as an add on, but stand alone it doesnt cut it at all. B&M one goes on tomorrow, might leave this on and have two coolers to make sure it has no problems.
