As you all know I am a newbie to the Toyota world. The situation is if I stand on the gas from a stop sign, it jumps right out there, but as long as I keep the pedal down it won't shift, I let up for a second and it goes to 2nd and from there on out it shifts normally, Problem, or just the way Toyota's are made????

Gonna take a chance and say you have an auto..

If so sounds like shift solenoids. You can pay $150'ish each at the dealer or get all 3 of them on Ebay for about $65-75. Drop the pan and replace them

Thank you sir, I wasn't sure, but it didn't feel right. If I ease it out, shifts ok, I am two old to be a hot rodder and I want this thing to last, hopefully its the last vehicle I need to buy.

I'm with ya... this t4r is intended to be my last ride. It feels good to drive something that is appreciating rather than turning to chit while needlessly robbing the wallet..

Also, what part of Idaho (no, uda ho) ? Shot a few birds in the lower panhandle and Challis area.

I live in the Salmon river area on the central west side of the state. Hells canyon is where I hunt most. I have family that lives in the Chalis area, but haven't hunted there YET......
