If I would have know what I was getting into I would have paid someone to do this. Is there a special trick to getting to the flex plate bolts? I can't get my fat hands in there.

You don't need to get your hands in there, just your finger tips. Remove the cover first, and I think there are 4 bolts holding that on. Then remove the 6 bolts on the converter. At this point I had my wife turn the crankshaft pulley with a wrench so I could stay under the vehicle. It's tight, but you can do it. Getting the bolts back in was the hard part for me. I used to center punch to line up the first hole, and then it's just feeling for the next ones.

Here's a thread with come good information in it.

Thanks Mstudt,

I thought I had disconnected everything from the transmission but I can't find where this wire runs to. It's right behind the return oil line. It it meant to be unfastened from here or is there another connector somewhere?

No picture, but I imagine you're talking about the small gray plug that is directly on top of the transmission? If so, I tilted the transmission down a bit and squeezed my hand through the shifter opening. That plug was the hardest of all of them to get to.

Sorry, here is the picture.

That's what I was talking about. There's a small two wire plug on the top of the transmission. You might have to right up from both sides to get a hold of it. I was able to reach it from the shifter opening inside.

Thank you sir.. I appreciate it.

Torque Converter

Is there any special trick to getting the torque converter out? What holds it in the transmission? I have looked all through the manual as well as searched and can't find anything. Any ideas?

Converter is bolted to the flexplate that is bolted to the crankshaft. Remove the inspection cover on the bottom of the transmission and rotate the engine around until you see the bolts holding the converter to the flex plate. Remove and rotate and repeat until they are all removed.

I have the tranny out already. Does the converter just pull out of the tranny now?

Sorry. Misunderstood. Should be able to turn it and pull on it and slide it off. It's engaged to the pump so it might take some effort to pull it off.

Thank you. I'll give that a shot.

It'll pullout off the transmission pretty easy since there's nothing holding it in. Getting this back together is the next challenge. You have 2 sets of tines on the input shaft of the transmission. You need to make sure the new transmissions tines are as close to the position of the old ones. The closer they are to the same the easier time you'll have getting the new one back in.

I'll be installing a transmission shortly, hopefully I don't have any problems.
I was super intimidated to do this. I did it solo but had a good transmission jack. The biggest pain in the butt were the transmission cooler lines. Buy some pb blaster or liquid wrench and have some heat ready. Also. Consider just separating the wiring harness from the ecu. Getting at all those connectors Is a pain from your back.

Glade I did it. More glade it's done, mostly glade I didn't pay someone.
