trans temp gauge

I am thinking about adding one down by my shifter. I like making things look factory. If anyone has a 99-02 I would say get a scangauge. The 96-98 4runners got screwed on the temp sensor. What about a cyberdyne digital gauge in green:

i saw that one too and liked it but i have converted all my dash lights to white, but if they were still the stock green i think this would be sweet. but im also a analog fan, digital is cool sometimes but gauges are ment to be scanned, especially if they are down low, i would not want to have to bee looking down there all the time to check that thing(as i know i would especially with it being new and cool)

i just got my gauge in the mail today, along with the new center console section, so gonna do the install this weekend but i was wondering form any of you who have used the auto meter 4357, what have you used for a temp sending unit... my gauge didnt come with one, should it have?

It didnt come with a temp sender? Thats odd. I would contact them asap.
take a look at this photo. It shows everything the guage comes with plus aa few extra brass fittings i bought. The sender is the small brass cylinder by the box.

That's garbage. Are you sure? I know in my AEM box there was like a false bottom, and under it there was the temp sender, and a couple AEM decals...

ok so i have that part, i just thought it was a bunch of different fittings/couplers all screwed together... and there is no wire going to it or pig tail coming off of it... this think isnt a remote sending unit, so how do connect it to the gauge?, i always used a brass/copper wire that came with my other gauges... like for water temp... sorry i probably sound like an idiot right now but this is the first auto meter gauge and so yeah...

Thanks Ripcord4

...for posting pics soon. I want to purchase the AutoMeter 2640 Z-Series 2-1/16" Short Sweep Electric Transmission Temperature Gauge.....

....with black face to match my already black dials and red needles on my dash. I'd like to know if is backlit though.

My question is where do i find a 'T' fitting for the sensor to plug into though? I'll be looking around and come back with an answer asap.

I found a photo that BFAD (Bigfish...) has on your build: permalink #36, but your photos aren't working yet on permalink #51.

Kid: thanks for the input. I hope it is after I order it from amazon. Also, I think I'll do a PVC tube enclosure (surrounding the autometer temp gauge) for the pod in front of the t. case shifter rather than sink it flush to the plastic there. I'll have it raised. Does that make sense? I want to do this just to experiment.

Ooooh. Just thought of something.....Painting some interior plastic pieces strategically green like my wheels and bumper. Haven't decided which ones yet.

Edit 20150408: I've opted out of painting anything on the interior.

Thanks for adding the photos. So, you found the brass 'T' fitting and other pieces....where? an auto supply store?

I have an autometer 5347 ($55 on amazon)

It is 2" and is silver in color.

If you want a black one to match your trim, you could get an AEM gauge. Wilson has one.

How did you get your gauge to fit all the way in like that. I have the AM 2640 and It's a really snug fit back there. I had to pop the gauge out a little bit to get the panel to clip down, and that's without the mounting bracket on the gauge.
