Hi everyone! My name is Ben and I am the proud owner of my 18th, yes, 18th vehicle. I have owned everything from a Volkswagen rabbit to a Toyota Tundra. In most recent years I spent a lot of time in a Toyota FJ Cruiser and two Xterra's. Coming from the Xterra community, I appreciate the level of quality Toyota put into the 4Runner. My rig is a 2014 Trail Edition Premium with just about every feature I could get. It's literally leaps and bounds from what the Xterra had to offer and I can't wait to explore all of it's capabilities!

To start, here she is on Day One. I was deployed overseas and spent quite a bit of time researching 4Runners and deciding which model to buy. I took a week of leave, flew back to California to visit my folks, and ended up finding this beauty at a local dealership.

I was only able to drive it for a few days before I had to catch a flight back to my duty station, so it was parked in the garage and driven a few times a month for about six months until I finished my deployment and returned home. During that time, I amassed a large (very large, in fact) collection of parts and had a nice stash waiting for me. My first four days of leave I managed to get everything installed, starting with the Gobi Stealth rack with rear ladder and sunroof insert.

After the roof rack was on and buttoned up, I started on the suspension. Mike at Metal Tech Offroad was great to work with and I emailed him often while I was overseas. He helped me settle on a suspension setup and I am very confident I made the right decision. I went with Icon 2.5 Coilovers with remote resi's, and rear resi shocks for the rear. I also got the Metal Tech Upper, Lower, and Panhard bars. These things are extremely beefy over stock and I really like the adjustability features.
(More pictures to come)

After I got the suspension installed, I installed a 40" Offroad Gorilla curved lightbar on the front of the Gobi rack (Carried over from my last Xterra), 2 Rigid SR-Q floods for the rear, and 2 Rigid Single Floods for each side. I havent wired them up yet, but the fact that Gobi prewires their racks is a huge plus for me!

I have a set of Shrockworks skids on the way, as well as a hybrid front bumper from Endless Horizons. I'll be heading to Dinkey Creek this weekend with a friend to shakedown the truck and make sure the suspension is setup correctly. More pics and adventures to come!

Welcome home and thanks for your service. Get out there and enjoy some of the hood ole USA! Truck looks great

Thanks guys! So far this thing has been great. Looking forward to getting her dirty and seeing what she can really do. This weekend will be a good run to test everything out. Pictures to follow!

And all buttoned up!

2. Wiring

For the wiring of my dual battery setup I study Antman 's thread religiously and literally followed it to a t. I think the only thing I did differently was chose different mounting positions and grounding point. His write up is great as is, and really doesn't need to be beaten anymore, so I'm just going to post up some pictures from my install to document it!

First I mocked everything up and marked my 2 gauge cables so I could cut them to the correct length

Then I added 2 gauge ring terminals, soldered them on, and put heat shrink wrap over the junctions

Then I slid wire looming over each cable to keep it protected from rubbing and general wear. With the cables cut to size and ready to install, the rest was easy. Almost like it was a kit!

I chose to mount my aux fuse box and starting battery inline fuse to the top of the vehicle fuse box with double sided tape for now. Over some time I'll decide if this works or not, and if it does I'll mount it with a more permanent solution.

This is the PAC500 relay. Super stout and can handle up to 500A, so you can use it to self jump start off the auxiliary battery via the in-cab switch, which I think is pretty damn cool. (stolen from Antman yet again)

Cable routing by the airbox/ washer fluid reservoir

For my aux battery ground cable, I chose the mounting point to be one of the Allen head bolts that holds the Shrockworks battery tray to the body. The bolt hole is in the thicker portion of sheet metal that sits directly above and behind the p/s forward body mount.

And all buttoned up! I still need to install the 200A fuses and wire up the in-cab switch, which I'm waiting on from OTTRAW (Along with all of my other switches!)

Thanks man, I appreciate that. I'm trying to be as methodical as possible, and do thing's right, rather than rush and have to deal with it again later. I was also taught the old adage, "if it ain't done right, it ain't worth doing". Cheers!

Look what the USPS left at the front door for me to discover when I got home! I smell a wiring day in my near future. Finally all the lights, cb, and other accessories will be wired up professionally and as clean as the factory stuff!

And installed in the lower cubby space. Still need to wire them up but getting this switch blank to fit was enough work for one day!
