Trd pro lift question

Toytec Lift, CBI Rear Bumper and Slee Sliders.

After installing the rear CBI swing out bumper it sagged a little so I decided to go with the TRD Toytec kit that includes the spacers in the front and the lifted rear spring. Could not be happier.

BTW, if you are thinking about a rear bumper the CBI fabrication is amazing! The actual swing itself is super heavy duty.

Heck of first post Oak! Looks good, enjoy.

I'll snap couple this weekend and post them. I think I was lucky because my SAW's yielded 1.7 inches in lift. I do have the 285 as the spare, so perhaps that helped a little.

Please do, I was looking at this same setup. Toytec with the new ridge grapplers.

I'm picking up a TRDP in a couple of weeks and would like to level the front out. I'm up in the air about Toytec's replacement 1" bottom perch or the 3/4" top mount spacer. Any suggestions about one over the other?

The Toytec TRD Pro kit comes with BOTH a 1" bottom perch and a 1/2" top mount spacer.

If you are doing just one or the other to level out maybe just the 3/4" top spacer would give you the level without further "pre-loading" your front coil.

Either way I have not noticed a rougher ride with the kit due to said pre-loading. Maybe slightly less nose dive but that's more of my own conjecture than scientific.

Good to know. I was considering that additional preload on the coil from the replacement perch, but didn't know if it would be much of an issue. I've got areas with low clearance that I need to be able to make, otherwise I'd just do the entire Pro kit. It seems like the replacement perch is a little bit of a "cleaner" mod, but the top spacer is a little easier due to not having to disassemble the front coilover. Tough choice.

Don't forget, if you go the lower perch route to set the driver side coil perch on the upper ring of the two for the TRD Bilstein shock. That helps the front a little bit with the 4Runner "lean". Passenger side goes on the lower ring for the perch.

I opted for the SAW 1.5" rear but it still gave me about 2" of lift. I am unable to get into a 6'2" garage entrance in DC but have plenty of clearance for the 6'8" entrance.

Do you think the 1" perch would change overall clearance of the truck with maintaining the stock rear? I assume the shark fin is the highest point of clearance.

I don't believe so. The part that made contact with the clearance marker was from the middle of the roof rack back. So that would indicate to me that it was the rear springs. If you are staying with the factory rear springs the front level will not raise the shark fin any higher (as you indicated, the highest part).

Great info, thanks for your input!

The TRD PRO should have sat like this from the factory. Without the Spidertrax 1.25 wheel spacers and 3/4 toytec front spacer.
Shaolin- I'm thinking of adding the 3/4" front spacer, as you did. I actually like the mild stock factory lift of the TRDP, but the rake bothers me a bit. I'll eventually (when the Nittos wear) get the Toytec kit discussed in this thread, but until then...I'll either leave it alone or add the spacers. I drive her sparingly, so it will be at least two years before I install the Toytec kit / larger tires. A few questions if you don't mind:

1) Its been noted that the rake is primarily noticeable, or present, when looking at the fender wells/tires. The rest of the TRDP (body, roof line) sits fairly level. Did you notice any reverse rake to the body/roof line after installing the spacers? Unweighted/weighted in the rear?
2) Did you notice any difference in the ride quality after installing the spacers?
3) How much front lift did you actually gain (Toytec states between 1/2" and 3/4" if I recall correctly)?
4) In your opinion, as a temporary 'fix', is it worth it considering the above three questions and the laborous installation? Would you do it again?

New to the forum (not to 4Rs though) so hopefully I don't get beat up here. Maybe I'm over thinking it, as the spacers only provide a negligible lift, but I'm a perfectionist and would hate to go through the installation process without checking all the boxes first. Thanks!

I just ordered the 1" leveling spacer from Toytec. I'll let you know how the install goes, and post results/pictures. I'm actually okay with preloading the front springs - I don't do any serious off-roading...and the ONLY complaint I have about this vehicle is the nose diving when breaking. I'm hopeful this will mitigate that a bit.

I'll ride her like this for a couple years and then when the Nittos are up for replacement, I'll do the 2" Toytec kit and throw on some 285 BFGs.

Right on! Can't wait to see pictures!

Put the Toytec lift on this week and the ride seems a lot stiffer to me on washboard fire roads. Anyone else think the kit made the truck more squirrelly on the dirt? I had it installed at a shop and aligned in hopes that the ride would not change much like the rest of you said.

Yes, I found the toytec kit way stiffer both on and offroad. I just swapped it and the trd front shocks/coils out for Bilstien 6112s last weekend and so far I find them to be firmer than the trds but still nice on fire roads.

Aren't the 6112s the same as the TRD pro setup?

With the toytec trd pro kit. The springs and the spacers what tire size are people getting. I just purchased a set of 275/70r17 but would prfer 285/70r17 if that is possibl without havong any clearance problems, rubing, or having to perform a body mount chop..

Also want everyone to knowmthat there is a forum code for Toytec for 10% off.

Here. Op may want to add to the first page.

Ok so here is a comparison with the Toytec lift and 275/70/17 vs. 285/70/17. Hope this helps when it comes to deciding what size to get. I am finally happy with the setup. 285's is for sure the way to go. So far so good, no rubbing at full lock. I did a few 360's at full lock and no rubbing at all. I'll try it again another time with more load but for now, everything is good. Got an alignment and the tech said that the toe was a little in. He got everything back in alignment but couldn't print out the after results since someone jumped on the rack right after.

275's on top and 285's on bottom. Both pictures taken the same day just different location. Tried my best to maintain the same angle but the bottom pic is more square.

I just want to say that you are killing me. Dont know why but every time I decide to do something to my truck it ends up that one of us has alreayd done it. We might as well almost have twin trucks. There is a difference though and it has taken me a little longer to get to the end game. That is the price you pay being retired though.

Btw I too bought the 275s before I even decided to dimthe 2" toytec just had spacers for the front of the truck. Now that I just ordered the 2" I definitely want the 285s as I like how thye look better as I had on my FJ before I went insane with the 35s and the LT Total Chaos suspension. Also, still have a perfectly unused 285/70 that would be perfect for the spare.

I will warn you that if you decide to go 285s, you WILL have rubbing no matter what anyone tells you. I recently did the body chop mod and now I have the very slightest rub only in reverse at full lock. Totally worth it though as the 285s look absolutely killer.
