Trd pro lift question

I read something that said....

Includes front coil spacers which replace the coil perches on the stock shocks. Also includes front top plate spacers with longer studs.

So they need to take out the perch and put it on bottom and add back the rubber spacer? Seems like they may have put both spacers on top.

Jesus so you're saying a shop did this? That's terrifying, I wouldn't trust them to put air in my tires at this point. Here's how it works on both sides. You disassemble the shock and remove the coil. The OEM lower spring seats get removed, thick spacer goes in it's place, coil goes back on, top hat goes back on after the longer studs are installed which they did. There is a rubber isolator between the bottom of the top hat and the coil which has to be there. Once the coil overs are reassembled, there is a 1/2" thick spacer that just sits on top of it. That gets sandwiched between the coil over and the top mount where the 3 studs go through. Looks like the thin spacer and longer studs are about the only thing they did right.

Found instructions on the install which I would think ToyTec would include but who knows. Hopefully this upload works, never tired to upload a PDF to the forum before.

Really appreciate the input. I do some wrenching on it but not the bigger stuff. I felt like something wasnt right and after reading a few threads I felt more confident it wasnt right. I used to have an old Camaro i worked on with the help of a great message board, this one has been just as great.

Guess I will be getting this fixed instead of working on my skids and arb breather on my next day off! Damn.

No problem, hope it all turns out well and they didn't throw away the original rubber isolators that they never put back in. If they did, that's probably something you'd have to get from the dealer. On another subject, where in NC are you? I'll be heading down around June of 2020 Moving to Mooresville on Lake Norman

I have a box with all the original stuff so I'll take a look and see if it's in there. I am in the triangle area, sort of in the middle of the state.

Look up a couple posts, check out my post #1103 I uploaded instructions for you. Might be a good idea to print them out and bring them to the shop with you.

Yep. Def will. Also going to print out some pictures of how it should look. Thanks again! I will be sad to lose an inch in the front but will be glad to get it right.

Yeah it's very unsafe the way it is now. It'll ride better, handle better, and it'll be safe and reliable once fixed. Make sure you post pictures once they fix it that way we can be sure they did the right thing.

I definitely trust your judgement, what do you think makes it unsafe? Luckily it's not my daily so it's only had around 1k miles in the 2 months since installed. Surprisingly drives well.

I assume they owe me a new alignment too.

Too much preload on the coils which puts a lot of extra stress on the shock. CV shaft angles and ball joint angles are way out of wack. I fear that spacer being up to with really nothing holding it in place could shift which would cause your coil to do god knows what. Your alignment is way out of spec also being up 4" over stock and still having stock upper control arms. Just everything about it is a recipe for disaster.

Makes sense. Thanks. Glad it got caught. Hopefully fixed asap.

Big hello and Question...

Hi all!

I bought a TRDP a few months back and have been gorging on all the good info from this thread. This forum should be a must-read for new owners.

I thought I was ready for the Toytec 2" but decided against it after seeing in some pics the rears too high for my taste. I like the factory stance of of the TRDP with the slight rake in front.

Will only be doing mild offroad for a while but want to get 275 or 285 KO2s put on. Do the Cornfed spacers retain the factory stance? What height on front and rears should I be looking at?

Glad to be here- all help is appreciated!

You can run a 275 totally stock so if you're happy with the height that is your best bet.

thanks for the quick reply. I want to add at least 1.5" to the front and rear but want to keep the front rake. As I search through the forum I keep coming back to spacers. I know there's some heated pro and cons on spacers ;)

Would 1.5" be enough to get 285's on or would they rub?

You can run a 285 stock also. Lifted or not, you're going to have to do the fender liner mod, that's pretty much a guarantee. As far as spacers, rear spacers are fine, front preload spacers are fine. You just don't really want those huge top hat spacers for multiple reason. If you like the rake and just want a small lift, go with the ToyTec 1" front preload spacer made for the Pro and go with a 1" rear spacer. For the rear I would personally recommend Cornfed. 1" front and rear will give you a small lift and retain the same rake you currently have.

great info, thanks! Is the liner mod necessary with 275's as well?

50/50 shot on that one. Some need it, some don't. Some Pros actually need it to run the stock 265's that come on it. If they rub, the bumper is trimmed at the port when the wheels and tires are installed. You'll have to trim more with a 285 but if done right you would never know it was done. I took off as much as I could, probably about 1.5" and it still looks stock.

I’m running 275-70-17 on my stock 2018 Pro without any problem. The fender liner mod has already been done on the Pro at the port. See link. T-SB-0009-15.pdf - Google Drive
As for a lift, check out forum member Tejas’s Pro with Burtman Industries Cornfed 1.5/1” spacer lift on a Pro with 275’s.

Since my truck is pretty level and you do want a slight rake for additional weight added to the rear when necessary, I’m contemplating if I should do anything at all.

Those 275s look great. Thanks for the info!

Pro with 1.5/1" spacers (Cornfed/Burtman) w/275's on stock Pro wheels. 275's work just fine on the Pro stock, but I wanted a slightly taller vehicle without getting carried away.
