Yes, the Four runner needs more power, there is no doubt its underpowered, and was by today's standards before the Gen 5 came out. When you buy it, you except that as part of the compromise you make with any vehicle purchase that otherwise meets the majority of what you are looking for. But modern engines, and Japanese engines dont lend themselves to practical and significant HP upgrades. Its better to except that or look for something else that is more power or speed centric then off-road. My current trail rig is a 1996 Montero with 225HP and 37" tires, and its slow as a snail. But that is the way it is as well....
