TRD Pro Skid on '15 4Runner TE w/ KDSS

Then why do the aftermarket KDSS skidplates require removal of the radiator brackets? From what I've read here in several threads, no TRD skid plates (or after-market skids, for that matter) have been installed onto a KDSS vehicle without said removal. Feel free to enlighten me, as I won't be able to look myself until tomorrow morning.

Anyone who has actually done this to their KDSS Trail please feel free to chime in.

Now that I think about it, if you are referring to the black bracket that I asked a prior question about, based upon reading the install instructions I don't think [MENTION=94314]divejoe[/MENTION]'s question was about that bracket, but about the radiator support bracing. I could be wrong.

That being said, after taking a good look at that black bracket compared to the OEM plate's analogous part, it appears that it is designed to channel air back toward something from the skidplate vent channels (in addition to providing the spacing between the frame). I could tell you what that 'something' is tomorrow.

the mounting points are exactly the same. in addition to cutting, yes, you do have to remove the secondary radiator support brackets to make the TRD skid fit with KDSS. Shrockworks skids also require the same. RCI doesn't, which is why you lose clearance with the RCI front skid.

Seems like a pretty straight forward install. Ill be picking up a TRDPro skid plate on Saturday and hopefully installing Sunday.
Out of all the plates on the market for a 4Runner, the TRDPro seems to be the best looking skid.

So besides the required cutting per the templates, do the lower radiator supports have to be removed?

Curious if there may be any harm in removing the brackets...i assume Toyota put them there for a purpose

Ok, got mine installed. My jigsaw skills are shit compared to you guys, but I got there with lots of dremel cleanup. I missed that the big radiator brackets had to come out to install the plate. Not super comfortable with that, but this is replacing a damaged plate, so it will have to do.

I modified mine today to fit my 2016 Trail. Very easy, I used a Jigsaw with a Bosch T227D blade (8 TPI, special for Aluminium).


With driver wheel lifted;

Driver wheel on ground;

Passenger side on ground

Did you need diff brackets to install this?

Sorry to bring this post back up and also sorry to thread jack. But, it's the only one that describes the part I'm having issues with. I have a 2012 limited and just bought a TRD skid plate. The bolts that came out of the sub brace that held the stock skid are way smaller than the ones that are included with the TRD skid plate. I was wondering if my sub brace is different or am I doing something wrong? I was hoping they were different and I could just order them but it appears that they are the same part throughout the years. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I thought there was some variation of skid plates in the front on 10-13 but would have expected bolts to be same, probabaly easier to go to the big box and find something that will work. There was someone with a 10-13 that mounted the TRD but don't remember any bolt issues mentioned.

Lots of variables with operating systems, programs and printers, so hard for me to be specific. I'd start with printing the PDF file from within Adobe Acrobat, but if not, most print dialog boxes have a scaling option; worst case scenario, I'd simply adjust the percentage until it prints to the correct (shown) lengths.

Or just use the measurements and a sharpie. You can mark it up without printing a template.

Thanks for making the PDF and thanks to [MENTION=139345]MtlTRDPro[/MENTION] for making the template. I haven't installed mine yet as I'm waiting to put my lift on but I feel it turned out pretty decent.







I ended up repainting the front of the skid. I marred it up a little while doing the cutting. Plus I didn't want to have exposed bare metal in some places. It's a tiny bit brighter silver with a touch of metallic. I like it.

Yes, I used a jigsaw. The cut that was longer and less curvy turned out amazing. The other one wasn't nearly as good. However I went up to my dads today and used some of his metal files and cleaned it up. Made it look as good as the other. Then I just sofented up the edges on each side.
