TRIED to install a new head unit.....and yeah 2000 SR5

So I decided to take everything apart to install my new stereo, and I managed to screw something up. I really have no clue what. I noticed there was one wire not plugged into anything, but I have no clue where it could go, it's near the base where the amp is. Here's some pictures that I hope clears some things up......

I connected the Head Unit, Kenwood KDC-205 or something. So everything did hook up, but it would only connect to the Hazard's wiring harness. I did not unplug the battery as Ive seen this mentioned before. The hazards work the AC works everything works, except for the light up dash at night and the clock and now the stereo also.

Also, I tried plugging in the hazard wire to the stock head unit, and it clicked in, but it just gave it power and caused it to make a s screeching noise, that was all. Also, realized that harness plugs into the wires that are hooked up to the stock amp, Im going to try that tomorrow.


So now the radio doesnt turn on, the dash doesnt light up at night. *The lights inside dont turn on....yeah * :\


This is the plug I found that leads to nothing.

The clock doesnt work either.

Stereo wire, the only one even though there are two slots.

Stereo has 2 inputs even though only 1 is connected?

This wiring harness connects to your stock amplifier. Remove and unplug the stock amplifier.

You should have have bought a toyota wiring harness to mate to your new head unit. The toyota wiring harness should plug in where the stock amplifier unplugs. Your aftermarket stereo will have a built in amplifier, so don't worry about removing the stock one.

You DO NOT need to plug the radio into the harzard lights or any other ridiculousness. You DO NOT need to splice any wires in your car, provided you have purchased the toyota wiring harness (Amazon.com: Stereo Wire Harness Toyota 4Runner 00 01 02 2000 (car radio wiring installation parts): Car Electronics)

Yeah I posted the right harness, I think maybe the wires touched for a bit. The stock radio isnt working anymore, but I did get the head unit to work for like 10 minutes when plugged into amp plug. which is obviously the correct plug

Thank you, I think I might have blown a fuse where the wire's touched..... :\


Let me know your thoughts. It was blasting nicely for like 5 minutes, so I know it has potential, lol

check all your fuses inside. the tools in the fuse box under the hood ( if you still have it)

Okay......under the glove right? Also, I noticed my signals dont work either :\ on the dash and outside. Ill check the fuses though, thanks for the heads up,

So I checked the fuses and the ACC fuse and the Turn signal fuses were both blown. I love how people always talk about using a multimeter, but it was clear as day that those damn things were blown, lol.

So all in all my turn signal and hazards work, but not the indoor lights or the dash light up lights or the clock/stereo.

Im not too worried about the stereo since Im going to replace it, but it would be convenient for the clock to work. I thought the ACC fuse was the one working these guys, but apparently that didnt do it. I must have shorted the radio, but the clock? I dunno but it's good I replaced those blown fuses. I was able to check them all visually with a flash light, so theyre all fine now.

SO basically I need to worry about my indoor lights not working and my light up dash, so I can see my speedometer at night. The clock and radio would be nice too.

Thanks a bunch you guys! Maybe I should change the thread's title now that Im bringing up all this other stuff, lol

Thats the wrong plug for your clock XD! Look around and there is another identical plug with prongs for the clock.
