Trimmed 5th gen SR5 bumpers and rocker panels

I like the way you blended the rocker trim to wrap around the sliders. I have no comment about the front or rear valence mods since I'm already minus the Trail rear cap for the same problem. I leave the Smittybilt Beavertail on there now! It might have saved me from this.

yea mine did the same thing when the rear bumper compressed a little when i came down on a big rock while on a trail.. i just pulled it off and it looks fairly clean without it

My plan was to try and improve the approach and departure angles for off roading without having to replace the front and rear bumpers. I started by installing the Bud Built Rock sliders and trimming the rocker panel to mold around the slider for a more OEM look. After doing that, my front and rear bumpers seemed awfully low compared to the rocker panels since I removed almost 4 inches off the bottom of the rockers. So I whipped out the jig saw one more time to try and even out the body lines, so tell me what you guys think.

Saved me from buying a rear bumper

Looks really good! What about the little air duct that seems to be there to cool the front diff? Did you remove that or leave it. Can you post a pic showing more of the center of the front end? Thanks!

I no longer have a stock bumper.. but at one point I had one trimmed all the way up to the aluminum bumper. It worked well and hardly ever hit anything. I had tubes I fabricated for the sides where contact was more common and so I had no plastic exposed to direct contact. I eventually wanted a little more approach angle and a winch so went with a plate bumper.

I kept it all so I can go back at some point if I feel the need. The fantastic thing about it was the fact that it added no weight at all.

You can remove all the plastic junk with no worries. But need a filler plate like the one from RCI to tie it all together.

Here are some pics. I was initially inspired by this post but did my own thing front and rear.

Final pic is what I have now. It's amazing clearance, but I miss having no weight up there.

Do you by chance have anymore detailsed photos of your cuts front and rear? Where and how did you attach that metal tubing on the front and back? Did you remove the bumper or leave it in place? This would be a great alternative to an expensive and heavy bumper.

Did you buy a new bumper cover to cut for installation of your AO bumper? Or are those filler plates of some sort?

In anticipation for my upcoming lift and larger tires, I decided to do quite a bit of trimming on the front bumper. Like many others with early 5th gen SR5's and Limited's, I very much disliked how low the body lines were. I've removed the factory Limited rocker panels for now, but will eventually replace them with either the '14+ SR5/Trail rockers or cut the factory ones.

I've included a few extra pictures showing what I've done with my fender liners as some others had questions. I'm not sure how long they'll hold up like this. This is all semi-temporary as I'll get an aftermarket bumper at some point. It's by no means perfect, but I had quite a few trail-induced love marks already.

I'm still trying to figure out the best way to trim the rear bumper. If anyone has any more detailed shots of theirs, I'd love the see them.

bit of a thread dig...

that back bumper/cladding looks an awful lot like the current LE bumper/cladding, I was thinking about attempting this but wasn't sure what the lines would look like afterwards... looks GREAT! :reddance:

Digging through old threads to look for trim ideas. This is perfect! Could not find anything of note for the early 5th, especially on how to pin everything underneath. Love my SR5, but I am scraping left and right and do not want to go full bumpers...yet. This is a spot-on in-between step. Thanks all!

I love the trimming you did of your front bumper. I just bought a 2013 SR5 in salsa red and I have been trying to find trail edition bumpers but then saw your trim job and wanted to reach out. On the front did you follow the subtle lines where the lower portion of the bumper looks like an extension? or did you just eyeball your own line? either way, your front turned out great!
I want to trim up the back as well, did you ever get around to doing it?
