Trouble tracking down Koyo radiator

Hello,

I just picked up a nice '00 Limited a couple weeks ago. It has about 150k on it and has been well taken care of, and the inside of the radiator looks new, but I want to replace it during my vacation time to help avoid the coolant/atf mixing. I want to install a new Koyo but the only place I can seem to find one for sale is go-part.com, I was going to order it there but after reading some of the very negative reviews and the F rating on BBB it scared me away. Ebay came up empty, there were a few other brands, but no Koyo. Partsgeek has new Denso for a good price, but I can't find much info about the Denso and I guess I'd rather go Koyo based on what I've read about them.

Has anyone here used go-part.com? Or do you guys know of a better place to look.

Amazon. And a lot of times they're listed under TYC.

Also, IMO, it's well worth it to do an external trans cooler. That is the only way to ensure no pink milkshake.
 
Thanks, I did see a lot that said Koyo cooling in the pictures but when I clicked the link on amazon/ebay it would pop up as TYC, are TYC just re-branded Koyo in that case?

I plan on replacing the radiator first to get me through the winter, I'm sure 150k miles of road grime has reduced the efficiency to some degree, and I've read the internal cooler is more efficient, important to me becuase I live in the PacNW which is all hills, and there may be times when the truck will head down to the desert SW in the summer.

TYC and Koyo are exactly the same, I just bought a new radiator from Amazon and it is a TYC...installing it this weekend hopefully along with a B&M 70264 transmission cooler. Hopefully my Bluetooth OBDII reader will come this weekend too so I can monitor the transmission temp...
 
Thanks for all the replies, I ended up going with the TYC/Koyo after doing more searching and because of info from this thread. I will just install that now and let it get me through the winter, the I plan on putting the biggest trans cooler I can fit in there this spring when it warms up and dries out up here, but I figure the brand new radiator will give me plenty of time and it'll give me a chance to get a scangauge II first.

I really am liking this truck, and we had some major flooding and standing water going on here the other day, the multimode setup was great going up a completely mudded-over hill. Can't wait to test it out in the snow.
 
I use 1800 radiator at my work. I just bought myself one from them. It was a denso which is an oem maker for toyota. It cost me 125 out the door.
 
I ordered a TYC off of ebay, I even called to confirm with the guy if it was a koyo or tyc and he said it was a koyo, but it showed up in a tyc box, stamped with tyc on radiator. So I returned it. Is it still the same, or should I find one that comes in the koyo box?
 
To the top. Anyone know if the TYC and the koyo are the same?

If they are not, is the koyo really a superior product?

Pricing looks to be very similar, the pictures of the TYC that I bought from Amazon look exactly like the koyo pictures on the go radiator website.

I've heard from several posters in scattered places that they're the same, but that, of course, is just hearsay.
 
I just got an email from Amazon saying that my TYC radiator just arrived. I'll take some detailed photos when I get home tonight, hopefully someone with a Koyo sitting around can help us get to the bottom of this mystery!
 
it is not that hard to purchase a koyo radiator guys. you guys make it seem like its finding a needle in a haystack. i have a koyo in my truck and they are not the same as the TYC. TYC and Koyo are 2 different manufacturers. to all that say they look the same. Its because they Do! it's a oem replacement part for crying out loud they have to look the same or they wouldn't fit the same way the oem one does. i have been working in this industry for over 10 years wrenched for Toyota dealer for a few as well. i think i know what i m talking about .

You are correct, the Koyo is easily found, the problem for me is that Both places that have them in stock are in California, and I am in PA. I was able to order the TYC off of Amazon, free shipping, and it arrived very next day.

Seems a bit cheaper than others have got it for.

I searched for KOYO and it looks like only go-parts.com and radiatorspot.com are the online vendors I could find, both out in Cali.

Weird. I looked to see if this would fit a 2002, and the site said it wouldn't. That doesn't seem right. I would imagine it fits. Can anyone confirm/deny the compatibility with an 02?

I think the confusion comes from the fact that the box you receive your radiator in says KOYORAD across the front and back of the box but the sticker on the side of the box says TYC and lists a different part number. Mine was represented as a KOYO A1998 when I bought it but when I received it that sticker on the side threw me for a loop... I decided to call KOYO and found out that TYC is one of their largest customers and KOYO does make this particular radiator for them, TYC simply "re-brands" them by putting their name and part number on the side of the box. The gentleman at KOYO that I spoke with said they are the exact same radiator but if you're still not convinced... He said check for KOYO's name on the radiator itself.

Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.
