I've searched the forums and have seen other people with these issues, but no good solutions. Please help.
My son has a 2002 SR5 sport edition 4runner. We bought it used a few months back. Since that time, the unlock button on the keyfob no longer works. The lock button works fine as does the button that rolls down the back window.
Additionally, the most troubling thing is that occasionally the alarm will go off for no apparent reason, and it will continue to fire until it runs the battery down. It has done it a few times at home and we were able to disable the alarm by unlocking driver door with the key twice. But since the unlock button no longer works, we have to use the key to disable the alarm.
This has caused some issues, particularly when he has been at school or when it happened at night at our home. My son walks out to find his 4runner dead and has to be jump started.
I'd like to just permanently disable the alarm system or remove it entirely, but I'd still like for him to be able to lock the doors with the fob and use it to roll down back window.
The security system he has has a red LED to the left of the steering wheel that functions as a valet switch as well.
Any help would be appreciated.
