Truck weight?

Andrew's posts got me thinking so blame him.

Where do you guys go to weigh your trucks? State weight stations or do private truck stops do it?

And, at what weight should one start to worry that their trucks are too heavy?

Any truck stop will do it for $10 or so. Start to worry when it feels unsafe. I'd be worried at around 6000 lbs with the stock suspension, but with an aftermarket I feel safer pushing the max gvw. I've run modified trucks (Toyota and others) at 40% beyond their max gvw without issue in much harsher environments and conditions than anyone here has put their personal vehicles in. It shortens the life of the truck of course, but they still perform. I think it's a fairly lofty proposition to get an exact worry number on heavily modified vehicles, though.

I'm expecting the "What does your 5th gen weigh?" thread to be started next. Last time I weighed mine it was at a closed weigh station on the side of the highway. Just pulled in, drove on, and looked at the weight then drove away.

I weighed mine last week at the Edco Disposal Facility where they weigh the loaded trash trucks. Just drive in and they have your weight up on a display. That easy!

5,460 LBS unloaded, no occupants, 3/4's full fuel tank.

Jumped up to 5,840 with myself and my dad inside.

5800 including me (~200) and my dog (~40). Also had the RTT on and was loaded for a weekend of camping.

Per Toyota.com, the empty weight should be around 4700lbs. Where is all the extra weight coming from? Gas is approx 6lbs/gal (<150 lbs for a full tank).

Full tank of gas, Shrockworks sliders+skids+bumper, Sears Die Hard group 31 and group 34 batteries, winch, full-length bajarack + gobi ladder, upsized tires, ARB drawers full of tools + recover gear, fridge, 4 gallons extra water, camping gear+other stuff packed for 2 weeks. Adds up, you know...
