Truckee Area Snowshoeing

Well winter is around the corner and hopefully some snow will come with it.
I'm interested in some snowshoeing trails around the Truckee area that also may require a little snow wheeling to get to.

Post up some of your favorites trails. Pics always help too

I try to get out to Peter Grub hut every winter. A nice snowshoe trip, even when there isn't any snow.
You can park at the son park near Boreal.

Bear Valley (off 20 at Bowman Lake Rd) is a nice area. Castle Pass/Peter Grubb Hut is good as well. Mt. Rose. Silver Peak. There's a ton. I ski though. And you don't have to wheel to get to those

If you're specifically looking for tours that you have to snow-wheel to get to, try stuff off the roads in the Grouse Ridge area that are snow covered in the winter. I got my old Explorer stuck WAY up Grouse Ridge Road in high school, and had to hike/jog 11 miles back to Highway 20--so I know from experience that there can be good snow-wheeling up there. :biggrin1:

Thanks for the replies. I'll have to check out the Peter Grubb hut.
Have done a far amount of fishing around grouse ridge but didn't think about snowshoeing up there.

Yeah should have posted in off topic thread, maybe the moderators could move this??

Dont forget also that many of the ski resorts will have snowshoeing areas as well, SugarBowl is one that comes to mind. But the others the guys talked about are good as well. I think that Emigrant Trail (between Prosser Damn and Stampede Res) is open to snowshoeing during the winter, I think. Definitely a great mtbing trail.

I can never organize crap on either forum... everytime I pick a date people are like, "can't make it any day but Sat" lol
