Trying to drop tranny

so i have everything disconnected and all eight bolts out, strapped to the jack and about 1/2" to 3/4" separation, even profile all the way around. Should the metal plate pull with tranny or stay on the block? Driver side is pulling with tranny, passenger side especially at starter(removed) seems to be stuck to block pretty well????

The fly wheel(metal plate whit gear teeth around the edge) and the clutch cover(bulge on top of the fly wheel with metal 'fingers' pointing towards the center will stay on the motor.

Although now that I think about it, I think your referring to the black metal plate that the starter is mounted against. Yes that also stays mounted to the block.

ya i was referring to the metal plate....thanks

got the metal plate separated but still not letting go. Just surprised to have that much separation and no be able to pull apart. seems to be lined up well and all wiring is clear.....

Probably needs a bit more just to clear trans input shaft from the clutch disk. That spline is an inch long or more. Then you need it to go even further back for the spline to clear the clutch fingers. Are you asking because you CAN'T GET more separation or because you think what you have should be enough?

Along with wiring and bolts, checklist includes: Both shifters, starter, Crossmember and mount, clutch slave cylinder, and you have to pull the cover on the front of the bellhousing or it will hang up on the flywheel just about where you are. On non-cali's, there is an exhaust bolt that needs to be undone. Forget any of those?

EDIT: I think the inspection cover may be your problem. It has to come out completely before you can separate. If that is the metal plate you are referring to, it should already be off the truck.

Here is what stays behind:

i'm sure its the cover....thanks

Yeah, its like five impossible to reach 10mm head bolts--some I got with long extensions from the front, and some I got from underneath, basic PIA.

got the trans out, that cover was definitely a pia. Thanks again, i was on the verge of making it in to something much worse.
