Tundra Axle Swap [Not a write-up =( ]

Rumor has it the tundra axle can be swapped if regeared. Widens the wheelbase and sturdier. Heard the rumor from a Lexus GX owner

Nothing came up when I searched, anybody know what's needed to make this work?

Anything can be swapped. With enough time and cash.

Tundras have leaf springs so I would imagine you would need to modify the housing for the coil seats at the very least.

Your talking the newer tundra 10.5" diff right? Worst case is a regear plus cut off all the link mounts and shock mounts and start fabbing your own on the bare housing. You might be lucky to find a used diff for $1500 in a junkyard.

Either that or go with a proven rear axle that will basically be bolt on from Currie or Diamond which will never break on you and increase you differential clearance with the ground.

I actually have a '13 tundra rear axle in my garage. You will need the whole axle assembly with brakes and bearings all the way across and you will have to get the axle flanges redrilled at a machine shop for 6 x 139 bolt pattern and some studs. Then you are all good.

What does not swap are the actual axles from an older tundra. So don't try that thinking that you can easily swap to get the 6 x 139 pattern. The bearing press in mounts on a tundra are larger than the 4runner or the 1st gen tundra and the spline count is different and the splines are different sizes.

You can easily buy some weld on spring cups and shock mounts from chassisunlimited.com and make this swap if you really want to do it.
