Turbo 4runner mud fun

With this set up, I wouldn't run an E-locker. I don't think it is strong enough to handle high speed, high power output.

My opinion, i would run a True Trac (torsen type) diff. It will give you traction on the street when you need it, in the mud and on the trail. The nice thing is that it is on all the the time and it is transparent.

The second choice is an Aussie locker.(cheapest solution) It is on all the time but not as transparent for day to day driving. But would be the first choice if you spend a lot of time with one wheel in the air as the true trac won't work. Aussie locker has a solid warranty too.

Just my opinion but the e-locker will blow up with the type of driving you are doing just based on your vdo's.

not as transparent is an understatement. if you wanna relearn how to drive put an aussie in. i love mine, but sometimes, i wish it wasnt there. but, id definitely rather have it than open.

Greetings CM.....

8sm here, actually it was my son, Scott aka Ludog, who met with you last week in Cottonwood. As Yoterman87 mentioned and Scott confirmed, there is nothing quite like see and hearing the system operate in person.

Nice job with the build, I'm enjoying watching the progression.

Regards....8sm

I want a turbo so bad.

I would easily put down $500 right now if I knew someone who could put one on for me.

Did y'all do any other mods to the engine?

Is there a substantial amount of turbo lag there or am I imagining it. It sounds like I can here you mashing the accelerator and then 2-3 seconds later your on your way. I didn't know if this was a mix up between audio/video portions of the video while editing or what?

Just asking...

I love the whistle when the turbo spools up. Now I wanna turbo charge my 4runner. Clownmeat, you should piece these systems together and sell them as kits on here.

There isn't any noticeable lag at all really, at the beginning the throttle was gradual. Full throttle at 0:24 and full boost at 0:25, then full throttle at 0:27 by 0:28 against the rev limiter.

thats because he was smart and used a small turbo. the smaller the turbo the less lag, the bigger the turbo the more lag. you dont need big turbo(s), unless you want huge high end power. on our engines (especially stock) that t04e turbo will be plenty, and is a great choice. it shouldnt take long to spool(infact it should spool at or just off idle) and make peak power at around 3-4K rpms but not drop off much after that). running a bigger turbo would mean power is only useable at the top end(around 5-6k rpms) and would suffer terrible turbo lag, and probably make the truck feel like it had no power or a lack of power at lower(more drivable) rmps.

Before we did the rearmount turbo setup on clownmeats runner and he just had the idea of doing it, i thought the same thing (too much lag, will not help off road.) but we did everything we could to minimize charge pipe length and found the right diameter charge pipe to reduce lag time. Also the smaller turbo helps with that as well. i took a video in the passenger seat of the gauges and you can see at 2300 rpm its at 2-3 psi and at the full 7 psi before 3500 rpm. Also that was on a flat paved road so climbing a hill or being in 4hi or 4lo it would spool before that. lag is just a common misconception about rear mounts or turbos in general. its kind of one of those see it to belive it kind of things.

exactly!!!! finally someone understands!!!!!!!!!! :naughty:

Closest I had to an underwater turbo at about 0:33

now you need to make a snorkel for it! :hungry:

It's not that bad, I haven't had it in snow, but I could see that being an issue. Other than that it's not that big of a deal. It does chirp that tires when I throttle around a corner though! Makes it seem like I have power.

Are the supercharged guys breaking e-lockers? I can pick up a whole rear axle for about $400 and just bolt it in.
