That's enough of a teaser I sent the seller an email.

Dear jdm_secret,

I noticed your JDM UNIVERSAL UPGRADE POWERT3/T4 TURBO KIT 500HP TOYOTA and wanted more information about it. If it fits a 2k T4R then it should at a minimum fit from '99 - '01 for the 3.4L 5VZ-FE V6 and likely that model engine from 1995-2002; can you confirm it will indeed fit that motor?

Can you provide any testing results supporting the HP gains? Coming out of the factory at 183hp that's a pretty considerable jump.


Any bets on whether or not I'll even get a response?

At $610.00 it's almost too good to be true. But I would like to get a little more power than the 183hp stock. Maybe it's real, and this would be an "affordable" option! :driving:

If you're looking for a turbo kit for the 3.4l V6, this is the one you want...

And the $4000 price that goes along with it reflects what a quality turbo kit will cost you. The $600 buy it now price on that auction is less than the price for a quality t3/t4 turbo by itself.

That kit would require a lot of fabrication, alot of time, and of course all the fuel system upgrades to make it work. I imagine alot of these end up on local craigslists after the ebay buyers realize what they got themselves into.
 
This is a universal kit because it has no turbo manifold. Usually a kit that will fit application will come with a manifold, and injectors. Then you would have to go out and get some kind of fuel management system. In the end you would end up spending close to 4gs with all the extras, tuning, and modifications.

This type of kit would be used for a vehicle that is already turbo or someone who has a fabricated turbo manifold.

Right on point. Used t3/t4's in good condition run $400 pretty commonly.

Without reinforcement of the engine I wouldn't even run anything more than 4 - 6 psi on premium. Unless you arent worried about the engine lasting very long, in which case I'm sure you could run 9psi and get 70hp or so for 20 to 30k before the engine goes. If that's all the boost you would want, a tiny garret t25 could manage that.

Another issue is that if you're gonna run a single turbo setup on a V6 or any other dual banked engine for that matter, you're gonna need tubular manifolds which don't last as long as cast iron exhaust manifolds.

Then you want injectors. Then you'll want an aftermarket fuel controller. Then you'll wanna get it dyno'd and tuned. Then you'll think, man I should have reinforced the engine so I could actually make some good power for all this money. Then if you do that you'll have spent $10,000 to have a fast SUV, that's not much quicker than the guy next to you in a stock civic si.

What he said.. Just walk away, in fact RUN away.If you want a fast suv, sell your 4runner! But on the other hand, if you decide to do it, take lots of pics and keep us posted!
 
Go for it, but you get what you pay for. I've seen a few of those ebay turbo kits really mess up some engines. Just get a TRD supercharger, its proven power.

Here is the seller's response. "universal fit all the car and model, thx"

Somehow that just doesn't give me any confidence it will actually fit.

I realize this wasn't a "do it all" system but I wanted to know if this offering as part of a total system was worthwhile. I would agree it will take considerably more to do it correctly.

I'd say go custom and forget the kit all together. That includes all kits, they're a waste of money and time. If you're gonna install forced induction do it with quality parts that are known to gain power not some diecast metal turbo from ebay. I was thinking about doing this to the "UPS 4runner" buying parts and building my turbo, but I realized that I think I would rather go with OEM supercharger. Toyota has spent years developing the 5VZ-FE and the upgrdes with it. So if there is anything I can get to add power to and know its safe to an extent then, it would be the trd supercharger all the way. :frog:
 
If you like that kit, then have I got a kit for you! It harnesses the power of hydrogen found in ordinary everyday tap water to increase your MPG's to 40MPG!

At only $200, it will pay for itself in gas really quickly!
