Turn signal fuse keeps blowing out

I hope you guys can help me figure out where the problem may be.

My 99 4Runner turn signal fuse blows out about once every 2-3 days. I just replace the fuse 10amp and its happy again. I know that there is a short somewhere, but why would it happen intermittenly?

I have tested many situations, but the fuse will blow when the car is sitting still or moving. I'll have the turn signals on for minutes in idle or ignition and then at random it dies. When this happens I hit the hazards and they blink just fine.

Yesterday, I had just the hazards on for 5 minutes and its fuse blew. The turn signals still worked after this.

Today, my turn signal fuse blew again. I had not replaced the hazard fuse yet.

Where would this short be?

did you change the bulb before this started? did you or anyone play around with the wires?
sounds like its gets ground out. if you blow the fuse everytime you use the turn signal then you have a wire is might be hitting ground somewhere.

No, I didn't change any bulbs before this happened. It started happening the day after an 8 hour road trip.

It doesn't happen all the time. But it seems to happen in bunches. I'll go 1 week without it blowing, then it will blow 3 in 1 hour. When its working, I try to shake the car but it doesn't blow it.

hate to say it but I think you will need to look over the wires in and near the fuse box and also check that there is no wires damage around where the turn signal wires are.

That's what I was wondering, where would a short be that the hazards and turn signal would blow it? I wish it were right by the fuse. Maybe its at the relay that makes the blinking.

BTW, the hazard fuse is also the horn fuse. I'd like to test it, but I can't wail on the horn for 5 minutes waiting for it to blow. LOL

Something very similar started to happen to my dads truck a long time ago and it ended up being a towing harness wiring that was getting chewed up and was grounding out on the chassis.

Turn Signal Fuse Burning

Having the same problem, just installed a trailor light harness so I am thinking that is the culprit, at first I thought it was the bulb installed in the turn signal (autozone gave me a brake light instead of a single filamet signal bulb), I will look into the trailor harness tonight and let you know.

try doing a voltage drop test on the circuit using a dmm, im a tech and thats the best way to search for the culprit. keep in mind 0.1volts per connection is accepable if u get 1 volt accross a connection or switch its bad.
