No, not a myth.
I don't know of any write ups, but truthfully I don't even know what you want to know? :shrug:
You can't make the factory DRL's the turn signals, because they are basically the headlights only dimmed. If you want to make your side markers become turn signals, that should be simple.
Or if you want to use aftermarket headlamps with a halo or separate DRL, you could make those your t/s lamps.

If using the factory side marker is the easiest then that is what I'm after. I want to avoid having to put a turn signal on the new bumper. My knowledge if electrical is pretty low. Thanks for the response.

OK, I get what you want now. Electrically speaking, this is very simple. But there are still some options, and depending on your mechanical ability, it can be easy or not so easy.
If you don't mind not having a side marker, it would be easiest, but I don't recommend that. Probably the simplest and best option is to modify the sidemarker housing to accept a dual filament bulb socket. Most auto parts stores can sell you that socket, then you can extend the t/s circuit to that socket, and connect the s/m circuit and ground.
I recommend you take the side marker out and look at it to see what you think you can do. You could also add a second bulb if you think that would be easier.
I will take it out and look here soon. If I run the dual filament socket you are saying run both circuits into the on socket with a new amber dual filament bulb?
My mechanical ability and DIY spirit is strong but am pretty weak when it come to electrical and fab work.

Saw yours before. Still think the dual filament is the cleanest but we'll se what I decide.
