Two things I want to change in my 2011 SR5

Hi, I am new to the forum and to diy mods. I just traded in my 09 lexus is250 for this a 2011 SR5(big change). For most parts I love everything about the 4runner except two things. I have gone thru 40 pages of the forum but I didn't really find any definitive answer.

1. Soft suspension w/nose diving when braking. What should I go with and how much will it cost?
-What I am getting is that I probably need to change out my shocks. (I will wait on tires till later).

2. Stock stereo w/0 JBL or nav sucks-
-I would like to change them out with kappas and I saw harper7's thread on it but I never even taken off a door panel and also from my understanding the wiring will not be the same on the SR5 compared to the limited. A step by step guide w/pics would be extremely helpful I couldn't find one. If such a thing doesn't exist would anyone who is planning to replaces speakers in their SR5 mind taking some pics and posting up.

I understand a lot depends on how much I really want to spend and what various other things but basically I am looking for bang for your buck.

Anyway, speaker installs have to be one of the most straight forward installs ever. I am sure someone has picture documentation or a step by step to post. Welcome to the forum!!

1. Depends on what you will do with your SR5. You can go with height adjustable front and matching rear shocks from Bilstein for about $400 (You get 4 shocks with the front being height adjustable, and re-use your stock springs)...Or, you can get the ToyTec ultimate lift for around $1,700...Or Icon stage 6 for $5,000...And everything in between.

Best bang for your buck... Bilstein shocks or ToyTec ultimate lift.

2. Taking off door panels is quite easy, they are held in with plastic push pins basically. You can Google search stuff like this, as most cars/trucks use the same process.

Wiring...Don't know about that part.

.85 seems to be the going trend to slightly level the front end. You will still have a very slight rake front side. Nose dive should be significantly reduced. Others have posted that setting the Bilsteins any higher raises the front end, so you get the front higher than the rear. The rear will not be affected, but you will have better damping with the Bilstein shocks over OEM.

Another option is to just replace your stock shocks with these Bilsteins, the link is for the fronts but you will be able to find the rears with a quick search. These are not height adjustable but make a huge difference in the roll and brake dive. I put them on front and rear, they make the ride stiffer but I like it much better than stock. Handling is the greatest improvement with these shocks, no comparison to stock. If you do a google search you can find a discount code and save a little bit also.

Has anyone put a higher setting on the drivers side compared to the passenger side due to the lean on the left (gas tank, I guess)? Or is the next setting just too high? -----but the rear is not adjustable so actually I guess that would not work...only a lift could fix that...right?

No, you can't set the L/R shocks at different heights with the Bilsteins (well, technically you could, but it would jack the driver side up way too high). With them set the same, the lean should not even be noticeable, except to you of course.

The only way to correct it is to buy adjustable coilovers for the front. Or get OME with the trim packer.

You should be fine with the Bilsteins. That kinda rhymes.

Just to confirm what's been said; I put (4) Bilsteins on, front set at .85. I am very nearly level. Another notch higher would result in the front being too high.

Ride is just right for me, firm without being hard or harsh. Dive/squat reduced by half, to an acceptable level.

Albeit not cheap, a good upgrade IMO. I'm quite satisfied.

If my stereo can say "4RUNNER" in 80 point font when I turn it on, why is the radio station ID in 10 point font on the left hand side of a dimly lit/ empty display???
